Pros: my symptoms are completely relieved
Cons: you have to take it every 6 hours
When I am in my severe state of PMS, everyone knows to stay away - far, far, away. I am one of those girls that has the full out symptoms of PMS.
Cramps - my cramps are so incredibly bad I usually lie in my bed all day with hot water bottles. I am hurled over screaming "go away please." Their has been about 5 days this year that I stayed home from school from cramps alone.
Bloating - Well, let me break out my size 9 jeans instead of my pair of 7s because I can't button the button or better yet zipper the zipper. Screw the jeans - break out the sweatpants.
Fatigue - Who likes to lie in their bed and do absolutely nothing? Me. What is a gym? What is exercise? What is the definition of moving around and getting sweaty? I wouldn't know. I like to lay in my bed and sleep all day with my fat stomach and cramps and sore boobs.
Backache - I got an MRI done on my back about 6 months ago and found out that I have "muscle spasms." I find that a week before my period when I get these symptoms, I have HORRIBLE back pain. My mom, the massage therapist, is constantly giving me massages and making me lay on tennis balls. Be jealous I get massages, not of my horrible pain!
Headache - This gives me even more of a reason to lie in my bed with my other symptoms and sleep hoping that my horrible pounding pain would go away.
Breast Tenderness - When someone knocks into my boob in school they usually hear one of the following:
"Are you a woman? Do you have big boobs? Do you know that I'm PMSing this week and I have to wear a bra that is bigger because my boobs grew? Do you know that my boobs are sore of the touch and you just hit them? Say one word, Sorry, and walk away right now. "
"Hey, watch it, I have sore boobs this week."
As you can see, I am the epitome of a person with menstrual symptoms.
My mom usually stocks up at A&P; she gets Midol for approximately $5.
I popped two caplets when I started getting my horrible symptoms.
About 30-45 minutes later, I noticed a difference.
* I wasn't hurled over on my bed.
* I was able to wear tight fitted clothing with a little more ease.
* My boobs were still sore, but weren't as sensitive.
* My headache went far, far away.
* My backache felt a little bit better; I was able to walk down the stairs and take a walk to my boyfriends house.
So what makes this stuff work so well? Why can't I just pop Advil?
Active Ingredients: Each gelcap contains: Acetaminophen 500mg (Pain reliever), Caffeine 60mg (Stimulant), Pyrilamine Maleate 15mg (Diuretic)
Inactive Ingredients: Carnauba Wax, Croscarmellose Sodium, FD&C Blue 2 Aluminum Lake, Hypromellose, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Pregelatinized Starch, Propylene Glycol, Shellac, Titanium Dioxide, Triacetin
You would need 2 Advils to equal the amount of Acetaminophen in one Midol pill.
Caffeine is added; this is like drinking one strong cup of coffee. (I wouldn't be able to make it from my room to the kitchen - screw the coffee - give me a pill!)
The pyrilamine maleate makes you go to the bathroom to loose all of the water weight and that bloated feeling.
When using this product:
- you may get drowsy
- avoid alcoholic drinks
- excitability may occur, especially in children.
- alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase
- be careful when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery.
- limit the use of caffeine-containing medications. foods or beverages. too much caffeine may cause nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness and, occasionally, rapid heartbeat.
- the recommended dose of this product contains about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee.
I have never experienced *any* of these side effects.
The only thing I dislike about this product
The pill has to be taken after every 6 hours or you will get the symptoms as bad as you had them in the beginning. For instance, I took the pill at 6 pm. I woke up at 12:30 a.m with very bad cramps, a headache, and back pain. I took the pill again, and by 1:15 I was out like a light. You must take the pill religiously in order to not have any pain.
I am so glad I found a product that takes away my horrible menstrual problems. I hate being inactive. I love going to the gym; who wants to stay in bed all day with a remote control and water bottles on every body part? Not me. These pills are my savior. Even though you have to take them every six hours - I think it is totally worth it.
And - I give you permission to cramp my style by using these pills. (If you don't understand what that means - ask ANY teenager and they'll tell you.)
