My mom gave me Midway NHL Hitz 2002 for Christmas. It was by far my favorite gift. I have been so occupied with it,that some of my Christmas presents are still sitting in the box at the back of my closet. In fact, most of them are. It's graphics make all the other games I've played seem like stick figures. When you hit someone hard enough, their helmet will fly off there head. Sometimes, they will shoot through the glass into the crowd. When one player scores three unanswered goals, a lightning bolt will hit them, setting them on fire. When a player is on fire, he is almost unstoppable.
Every exhibition game you win, you gain points with which you can spend in the "Hockey Shop," on jerseys, stadiums, mascots, and teams. The harder the difficulty level the game is at, the more points you earn. You can also choose a team to play a season with. I can't play a whole season because I haven't figured out how to save it on my x-box, so I like to play in the playoffs for the Stanley Cup. It also has a training mode. There are drills you can do. After you beat all of them, they get harder. For example, in shooting drills, it adds a defender, in skating drills, the gates move, in checking drills, the opponents pass the puck to keep it away from you. You can also create your own team. You choose everything from the width of there chin, to the teams mascot. You also pick there athletic abilities. You have a certain number of skill points to distribute to your team. Each player has the catagories speed, shooting, balance, checking, and passing. Each catagory has five points automatically given.
You play three, three minute minute periods. Three players and a goalie are on the ice for each team. When two players have a disagreement and decide to go at it, you are the person fighting for your team. Each player has a bar at the top of the screen that represents how much more he can take before being sent off to the bench for the rest of the period. If you are on fire and you lose a fight, when you return to the game, you are back to normal.
Each team has a goalie rating, a offense rating, and defense rating. When you are setting up a exhibition game, these ratings are very helpful for deciding which team you want to be, and the team you want to play.
With all these different scenarios, I don't see how anyone could possibly get bored with Midway NHL Hitz 2002!
