so_hum's Full Review: Miele S4210 Capella Bagged Canister Vacuum
Who would have thought such a powerhouse of a vacuum could be sooo cute, so tiny and so light?
Okay, I admit I'm a "beauty freak" but it's justified because if the vacuum is so light and pretty I actually *like* to take it out of the closet, I'm already halfway there to a clean house.
After much deliberation I chose the Carina over the red Solaris Electra even though the latter had many more features I would have liked (power control on the hose, power hose, greater "swivel" at the hose base). I chose the Carina because it is soooo light it doesn't even feel like a vacuum cleaner. It feels more like a cute creature and behaves like a voracious, dust-eating pet.
I LOVE that it has the "sealed system" --new to Miele, which (I had wrongly assumed that they were all like this before now) means the entire vacuum cleaner is HEPA certified, not just the filter part. That means that ALL the air that goes through the vacuum is *forced* to go through the HEPA filter.
I vacuumed my entire house yesterday and today (I haven't told my husband yet that I went out and traded in our old half-living Kenmore for a much more expensive, cute and useful vacuum) and he can't figure out why the place looks so nice, not being that much into noticing details, he just knows it feels nice. And (here's the kicker) I keep getting it out and finding new things to vacuum, because my back isn't tired and it didn't even feel like work. I keep wondering if I really vacuumed at all or just imagined it? I keep wondering if maybe the floors aren't as clean as they look? Did it miss some spot? Something so pretty and cute and quiet can possibly clean that well?
It's unimaginably easy to use and I didn't even break a sweat. I can't believe I vacuumed the whole house. With the old Kenmore (with HEPA filter by the way) I would get a backache even taking it out of the closet and then break a sweat if I vacuumed more than one room (from having to tug the canister around--it doesn't have the three 360 degree rotating wheels like a Miele) and have to take a shower if I vacuumed in the office or under the bed.
I'm not exaggerating by saying that today I did the whole thing and didn't even break a sweat. I thought I would too from bending down to change the nozzle from the electrobrush to the parquet floor attachment.
Cons are that I had to spend quite a bit of extra, even after my "decent trade in" to get the battery-powered electrobrush (the only powered kind you can get for the galaxy series--they don't have an electric hose so they can get the canister weight to 10 lbs) and the parquet floor attachment because they don't come standard. I got a whole bunch of extras for cheap though--they basically threw in the HEPA filter (doesn't come standard either) and a bag of bags, some carpet cleaning powder that takes out stains, and practically gave me an extended flexible crevice tool, a radiator brush and a hand turbo brush. This is great for getting cat hair off chairs. I might even vacuum my duvet with it--I won't even need to use the nifty little tape rollers anymore. :)
Oh, and my 1.5 year old didn't wake up while I vacuumed yesterday--he slept right through it. Today, he was awake, but didn't come crying and need to be picked up. Instead he picked up the flexible crevice tool with the radiator-brush end and "vacuumed" alongside me. Wow! What fun. :)
