Pros: The best home built-in machine you can buy
Cons: Keep a stock of the consumable cleaning supplies you will need
Expensive? Maybe when compared to other coffee makers. But this is no ordinary coffee maker. If you are a serious coffee drinker, hate cleaning the pot, want a rich creama head and full flavor and want to impress the socks off your friends, this is the unit.
We installed one of these during a remodel about 3 years ago and it has been THE BEST appliance I've purchased in the past 10 years.
Many machines on the market will make good coffee, assuming that it grinds the beans with a conical burr grinder (not one of those countertop units with a blade) and has access to fresh, clean water. But to get GREAT coffee, you need to pressure; and that's something that only commercial systems can achieve. Until now. This unit brews an amazing cup of regular coffee because it produces an insane amount of pressure once the freshly-ground beans are moved from the automatic, internal grinder to the brewing unit. It automatically tamps the exact amount and then uses a pressurized brewing system that produces an amazing creama on the top of your coffee. When I hand my friends a cup, a light tan layer floats just above the freshly-brewed magic below. And the reaction is always the same, "did you put milk in here" or "is this a latte". No...that's just what great coffee looks and tastes like.
Paired with a local, reputable purveyor/roaster (like we have here in Baltimore at Baltimore Coffee & Tea), and a clean water supply, you can't go wrong. The unit is plumbed with its own water supply and only occasionally requests user intervention to add beans, dump the grounds from the bin or to clean.
Summary: Just amazing coffee -- the best you can make at home.Good features -- programmable by user right down to the dimming of the unit lighting and the temperature of the final product.Unit will advise when it needs to be cleaned and how many cups you have left before needing to descale.Versatile drink offering including latte, cappuccino, espresso, coffee and a separate hot water system for soup/instant hot chocolate, etc. My only issues are: Uses consumable cleaning supplies (descaling tablets and cleaning tablets) that are easy to find online, but you're out of luck if you don't have any supply on hand when the machine requests them.
If you like great coffee and want the best you can buy, this is a great unit that won't let you down.
