| popcornsally's Full Review: Miele T1413 Electric Dryer |
When we moved across the country two years ago, we left the old washer and dryer behind. We finally bought a great house and needed a washer and dryer ASAP. My husband did a lot of research on the best kind to purchase. We were willing to spend a fair amount with the expectation that we won't be replacing the appliances for many years. Luckily, we found a great, small local appliance retailer. Let me just add that I recommend people seek out a local business that specializes in appliances. You will get much better service than most "big box" stores. The salesman was really helpful in explaining the differences between Miele, Bosch and Asko. We were already interested in the Miele, and after talking to the salesman; we decided to go for it.
We bought the dryer to go with our W1213 washer. The washer holds 13 pounds of clothing. The dryer is able to handle a full washer load easily. The dryer looks small, but it can hold as much as my old Maytag dryer. This model is a "Touchtronic" model, meaning it has a panel of electronic buttons rather than old-school style dials. Our appliance salesman assured me that this method of controlling functions was no more likely to cause problems than dials. There are eight drying programs. Six are moisture-based, and two are time-based. There are also options for "turbo, normal, and gentle." This brings me to the only thing I would criticize about the dryer. To get a full load completely dry, one must choose "extra dry." If you want it done faster, choose "turbo." I would have thought that "dry" and "normal" would have done the trick for the average load. I have found that clothes come out just barely damp sometimes when choosing the normal/dry options. So, the dryer can dry, but you have to choose the appropriate setting. I don't know, maybe the Europeans like their clothing to be a bit damp when it comes out of the dryer! I am sure it is easier on the fabric, but I want my stuff dry so I can fold it and put it away immediately. I am sure people who have lots of delicate clothes really appreciate the gentle cycles, but most of our stuff is cotton or the like, and can take some heat. I have found that the machine dries clothing in a reasonable amount of time when the correct setting is chosen. However, I am not sure this would be true if I were using a different washing machine first. The W1213 really spins a lot of water out of clothes so the dryer has an easier job. One nice feature the T1413 has is the anti-crease cycle. This keeps the drum rotating periodically for up to an hour if you don't get your clothes out right at the end of the dry cycle. Like the W1213 washer, this dryer has the PC update feature. According to the Miele website, "Thanks to the PC Update function, you can now keep up with technological advances. For example, using a laptop computer, a Miele technician can alter a machine's programming parameters to reduce its water intake or electricity consumption or even adapt it to a new type of detergent." I doubt many people will ever use this feature.
