| Teykaerts's Full Review: Miller Genuine Draft 3001 |
I have a sentimental place in my heart for Miller Genuine Draft. Known all over the country as MGD, this was the first beer that I really liked. My friends tried to convince me that Molson Ice and Coors Light, the preferred beers in my circle at the time were better, but when I first tasted MGD, I knew that this was clearly a better beer, even if the reasons were unclear.
Even to this day, with a rather extenseive knowledge of beer terminology and wide sampling of many beers, it is difficult to say what sets MGD appart from its competitors. Perhaps it is the fact that it is cold-filtered, provided it with a "straight-from-the-keg" flavor, or the fact that it has more water in it than Coors or Bud. But whatever the reason, MGD is definitely ascendent over other macrobrews. It is very smooth and not complex at all, so you can chug it down with whisky or Jagermeister, as I like to do. One suggestion, make sure that it is VERY cold. For me, a fridge isn't enough; I like to get out a little cooler and fill it with ice and just sit by the edge of the couch an hour before my TV show comes on. When it is super cold, it really does not get much better than this classic, blue-collar beer.
MGD is fantastic with any good-ole' American fare, like burgers or pizza. If you are one of 37 beer drinkers in the world who hasn't had MGD, try it out and toss that monopolistic Budweiser stuff out of the fridge!
