| tiffer0220's Full Review: Milton Bradley Bob The Builder Scoop's Constructio... |
Since my 5 year old is still a Bob the Builder fan, and I am trying to cherish whatever baby he has left, I purchased him the Bob the Builder - Scoop's Construction Site Game recently. With a price of $4.97 on it, I knew I couldn't pass it up, and if the game was really bad I wouldn't be out of a lot of money.
What you get with the game
This game consists of your basic gameboard, plastic I beams, cardboard platforms, a cardboard roof that has Pilchard sitting on it, a spinner, and a Bob the Builder on a plastic saw horse stand. One good thing about the game is that Bob can be played with separately or with other Bob the Builder playsets.
There are enough cardboard platforms so that up to 4 players can each get 3 platforms. On the board there are platforms already colored into the board in each corner. There are not any colors to choose from, just if you would like to be the wood platform or the steel platform.
There really isn't any big assembly of the game, just punch out the cardboard platforms from the sheets, put together the spinner, attach Pilchard to his roof, and attach Bob to his plastic saw horse. Scoop needs 1 AA battery, and then you are ready to start playing.
The object
The idea of the game is to be the first player to build a 3 tier tower with the red plastic I beams and cardboard platforms, all while trying to avoid having your opponent from knocking it over. A player will need 9 I beams all together in order to his tower complete.
Game Play
Before starting the game, you have to take the 28 plastic I beams and place them standing up around the board. There are marks already on the game board for where the I beams should be placed. Scoop is to be placed in the middle of the game board and then taking turns, each player spins the spinner. There are 3 different things to land on. You can land on the picture of an I beam that says take one, here the player will just take 1 I beam from the board and place it on his platform. There are marks also on the platforms for where the I beams should be placed.
There is also a picture of a saw horse on the spinner. If the player lands on this, he gets to take the Bob the Builder and place Bob in front of his tower. Bob will protect the players tower from getting ran over by Scoop.
The last picture on the spinner is a picture of Scoop. Scoop takes up half the spinner so that each player gets a chance to land on him. When the player lands on Scoop, he gets to pick Scoop up by his light from the middle of the board. When you pick Scoop up like that, he starts to spin around, the player tries to aim Scoop in which direction he'd like him to go and then puts Scoop back down on the game board. Scoop will then move across the board until it hits the end of the game board and then it stops by itself. Whatever I beams were knocked off the board, the player gets to keep and adds those I beams to his platform.
When a player places the I beams on his platform, he will have to have 3 I beams before placing a cardboard platform on top of it to start the next level. After 9 I beams, the player can put the roof on his platform and he is the winner.
Do we like it?
My 5 year old likes to play this game only because he loves to knock down everyone else's platforms. My 8 year old thinks this is the dumbest game yet, and I just keep my mouth shut and play along with my 5 year old. The other kids here that have played it all are over 5 years old and they also think this is a "dumb game for babies."
Despite the older kids, I recommend Scoop's Construction Site Game for a Bob the Builder fan who is 5 years old and younger. There isn't any reading involved so that will not be a problem. And since the object is simple, the game can get boring for anyone older than 5 years old. On the plus side, Scoop is quite a few inches big and motorized so he can get played with alone outside of the game.
