| Debbietipton's Full Review: Milton Bradley Trouble |
For Christmas my older son bought my younger children the game of Trouble. Ever since then, we have been having to play no less than three games a day. I am not surprised, because I remember how much I enjoyed playing the game as a child as well. What did surprise me is how much my four year old took to the game and how much it has improved his counting skills.
The object of the game is to get all of your men to the finish line first. While you are playing, you must try to send as many of the people that you are playing against men
back to home as you can. All the while, trying to not let them do the same to you.
The game comes with a plastic game board with a Pop-O-Matic die roller. The board is surprisingly stronger than it looks and than I thought it would be. The only problem that we seemed to have was that the rubber feet that you need to attach never seemed to want to stay in place. This would in turn make the board want to slide around. We finally glued them in place which then solved the problem. There are also sixteen plastic playing pegs:
4 green
4 blue
4 red and
4 yellow.
GAME SET-UP:
1.) Each player will choose a color of 4 pegs in which to play with
2.) They will then place the pegs in the home of the same color.
3.) Who starts the game is decided by who gets the largest number after each person pops the die one time.
4.) Play will then continue to the left.
HOW TO PLAY:
1.) A persons turn will be a pop of the die and a move if you are able.
2.) If a six comes up at the pop of the die, that person gets to move again.
3.) On your first turn, you must pop a 6 to get out of your home. If you do not pop a six, you cannot move. Remember: You do get an additional turn for the 6.
4.) After your first 6, and you do have someone out of home, you can either move another peg out of home or move the existing peg.
5.) If you pop the die and that number would land on a space that has another players peg in it, you must return the players peg to home and you now take over the spot. This will also happen if another players peg occupies your start space and you roll a six and choose to come out.
6.) When you have moved your peg around the board one time, you will then enter the finish line that matches the color of your peg. You can only enter your finish line if you can move the exact number which is on the die.
If you are the first player to get all four of your pegs into the finish line, then you are the winner.
FINAL VIEW:
Trouble is a fun filled game that can be enjoyed by the entire family. It is not only enjoyable to play, but is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the wonderful world of counting. In my family, it has become a fierce competition to see who can send who back to home the highest number of times and who can cross the finish line without getting sent home.
I wish the game board was a little more sturdy, but as I said it is better than I thought it would be. But, bottom line is that it is still a wonderful way to spend time together as a family.
