| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Milwaukee's Best Ice |
Milwaukee's Best Ice is a product of the Miller Brewing Company and one of the "stars" in Miller's below- premium product line. The reason I say it's a "star" is because Miller almost seems to take pride in making these awful products known as Milwaukee's Best. They have a regular variety, a light style, and now an ice- brewed version.
This beer has a golden color and an unusual smell. The aroma is a combination of grain and corn meal, and it smells dry and paper- like, and very unappetizing. There is a good amount of foam, if poured properly. The alcohol level is high, like you would expect in an ice beer. It is 5.9 percent by volume and there are 135 calories per 12 oz. serving.
Describing the taste of Milwaukee's Best Ice isn't too difficult. The hard part is finishing the beer! The taste is grainy with little character. The acidic, alcoholic finish is obvious and it makes for an unpleasant taste experience, unless the taste of alcohol is your idea of great beer. It's easy to tell that Miller did not care about quality when they formulated this recipe. There is little hop taste, if any, and the corn- like graininess is usually indicative of a beer made with adjuncts (additives like corn sugar), to keep the price low.
Why did Miller choose to make this product? I can only assume that they did this to capitalize on the popularity of ice beer, and to add another cheap product to appeal to the college crowd. If price is your primary concern when choosing a beer, then it would be hard to beat the Milwaukee's Best product line. This beer sells for only $7.99 per case. It could very well be the most alcohol that you can buy, in a beer, for this low of a cost. You can even purchase a 40 oz. bottle for only 99 cents! Without a doubt, this 40- ouncer is an alcoholic's dream come true.
Are you looking to match Milwaukee's Best Ice with your favorite food? If you must, then I would suggest drinking it with something very salty, but that's about it. Don't insult a good food by eating it with a glass of this beer. There are far better products for food. And, to lessen the assault on your taste buds, I recommend drinking this beer as cold as possible, so that the taste will be masked by the coldness.
Overall, this is a very poor product, but it does have its place. You really can't brew a good beer and retail it for only $7.99 per case, so the price alone should tell you something. Still, college students and people on a tight budget will continue to buy this beer no matter how bad the taste. Go ahead and let them. For the rest of us, a few more dollars can do wonders for the quality of beer. Open your wallet and splurge! Avoid Milwaukee's Best Ice at all costs!
