Pros:Subtle look, feels great, isn't messy
Cons:Doesn't come with applicator, a little expensive for drugstore makeup
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for something for everyday wear, this is a great purchase. It's easy to apply and I think it would be flattering on everyone.
I was something of an eyeshadow hoarder for years -- I still have probably 30 or 40 of those little cases from nearly every cheap brand and a couple of expensive ones floating around my bathroom.
But I started using the Neutrogena Mineral Sheers shortly after they were introduced, and now I use them almost every day. The color combinations make it easy to make your eyes look great and not screw it up. (Because we all know it can be easy to screw up the way your eye makeup looks.)
The Sand color combination is my favorite on days when I look nice but don't want to look like I have a lot of makeup on.
When I wear it, I first apply a thin line of brown or bronze eyeliner -- not much, just enough to help the color last through the day.
Then I apply the darker shadow to my eyelids with a small brush. You don't have to worry so much about putting on too much because it won't be that noticeable if you do. Then I apply the lighter part to the area just above my lids. It doesn't have a lot of effect, but it helps to brighten your eyes a little.
The effect is very natural. It doesn't really look like you're wearing eye makeup at all, but your eyes do look very nice. If you're going for a dramatic look, these aren't the product for you, but they're great for everyday wear.
I think this is also something that would flatter any color of eyes.
It has the feel of mineral makeup, but it's much less messy than most mineral eyeshadows I've tried. While the other ones I have are leaking out into my makeup drawer, these stay put in their nice little package.
The only drawback for me is that they don't come with any kind of applicator. I've never been much of a "Put it on with your fingers" type of girl, and I think a small brush does the best job.
The mineral sheers also cost a little more than most cheaper eyeshadows. They're usually $6-8 dollars, depending on where you get them. But they do last a long time, and you don't have to worry about wasting any because it's not something that will spill.
