sojournseeker's Full Review: Mini Old Fashion Pecan Pies (Economy Packaged 12 -...
*Consumer Note: I am only reviewing one separate pecan pie of net weight 3.25 ounces in one recyclable cardboard box
November is really all about the food that the celebration of Octobers last week collects when harvest hits home and the appetite is appeased in a variety of different ways. Spicy, sweet, tabgy, hot and carmelized single servings that are meal savers ! It is the beginning of the time when I just eat as much of the traditional food as possible and sample things I haven’t run across my palette. I love a great dessert but I really don’t like to bake and cook much anymore as I did this for a part-time living nearly 25 years so I look to a few store-bought desserts.
There is not a lot of choice when you despise all refined ingredients like processed sugar, GMO flour or full of gluten . . . The Old Fashioned Mini Pecan Pie is processed but not with hazardous chemical additives for color or texture enhancement, although there is mention of artificial flavor. I have been lucky to find a local store carrying value-priced groceries, the famous Wal-Mart. The dessert specialties here are very tasty, quite economical and extremely inexpensive.
This particular Mini Old Fashioned Pecan Pie is sold separately, not as an economy packaged 2 pound box of twelve, therefore you can purchase as many or as few as you want for $.58 cents per pie ! We buy about six at a time so each of us gets two different flavors of pie for dessert for two or three days depending how long we can keep the ‘sweet-tooth’ craving at bay.
The idea of a mini is smart because this appeals exceptionally well to the younger crowd who want their own as much as possible during the holidays--if not most of the time. Here is a little food-item they can eat anyway they wish, anytime, cept before dinner.
The drawing on the front is traditionally a hometown product kind-of appeal. A horse-drawn carriage and old world charm flavor the front of a simple cardboard recyclable I hope box which serves one at 92grams or split between twins at roughly 45grams each.
The flavor when warmed in a toaster oven for eight minutes on low, is yummy and with some real cool whip or ice cream on top, a dessert fit for a king or queen ! The pecans are sweet, the caramel and palm oil and corn syrup are blended so smooth it compliments the crust. I am not fond of the crust, not enough taste just there. If it is not for the pecans and the thick sugary suspension they are stuck in, the crust is blah but works for the overall taste of a real super pecan pie! This can be a concern if we not only don’t want our foods containing hazardous additives but also not be imported from another country keeping our country enslaved and dependant . . .
So the holidays are coming and these would be harder to bake from scratch, although fun and time-consuming, and I encourage buying up several varieties as they come in Pecan, Cherry, Apple and I believe a berry type. We get the Cherry and Pecan which is all our local Wal-Mart serves.
