| gtwerra's Full Review: Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xi Digital Camera |
I've had a chance to play around with my new Dimage Xi and have found it to be much improved over the X model and it easily keeps up with cameras 3 times its size. This is my 6th digital camera (I've owned Sony, Olympus, Casio, Etc) and found the Dimage to be the perfect camera for my needs. I am not a pro, but I do expect high quality results and all the basic features that todays cameras can offer. Tons of useless bells and whistles really don't impress me. My other requirement is that my photo equipment must be highly portable as I travel frequently. I've found that the Dimage Xi meets all of my needs and has far exceeded my expectations of a digital camera.
The Dimage Xi looks exactly like the X, but is just as sturdy and the basic features have been improved over the X. For example, the Xi boasts a 3.2 MP resolution (I'll rarely print an 8X10, but know this little cam can handle it) and the colors are very true to life. Another nice improvement is that the digital zoom is now increased to 4X, allowing for total zoom/mag of 12X for distant shots. And most importantly, the Dimage Xi now has a simple two button delete capability (My biggest gripe with the X was that the delete funtion was menu driven and seemed to take forever).
All of this is a teeny package that can fit in a shirt pocket or even around your neck (Minolta actually sells a neck strap for the Dimage).
Data transfer is as easy as as ever, simply plug it in and your pc will recognize it as a drive.
I've experienced virtually no shutter lag or blurred pictures when I push the shutter 1/2 way down and let the camera focus. Battery life is superb both in camera and playback mode.
My only (minor) gripe is that the Xi does not allow you to crop pictures... but, they can probably only squeeze so much into such a tiny package. I just do my cropping on the computer.
I've done my research and owned/played with alot of cameras, but in my opinion this is definately "the best" of the mini digital cameras on the market... until the next generation Dimage Xt hits the streets!
