Well I have to tell you I did have "Yellow Anemia". In the early spring of last year, I noticed that one of my Rododendron shrubs, that is on the side of my front porch had several yellow leaves on some of the branches. Although it did bloom with a few flowers, it didn't have the flowers that it had the year before. Now the other Rhododendron that was on the corner of my house had several large flowers and the leaves were not yellow. Being concerned because of the yellow leaves and not many flowers, I decided to go to the nursery where I had purchased the plants a few years ago for some advice.
I talked to one of the fellows who works there, and explained to him of my yellowing leaves and how very few flowers that my plant had . He explained to me that evergreens and flowering shrubs will exhibit yellow needles or yellow leaves if the soil is not acidic enough, and sometimes chemical lime from concrete will leach into the soil. I assumed this was the problem because my Rododendron was right next to my front porch that is made of concrete. He recommended Miracid Plant food and said that it would correct my problem. So I purchased a 1 1/2 lb. container of Miracid Plant food for $3.99 to give it a try.
When I got home, I opened it up. In it was a plastic bag of dry granules. It also came with a measuring spoon. One end of the spoon had a small scoop which equals 1/4 Tsp. The other end had a larger scoop that equaled 1 Tbsp.
How to use:
I mixed 1 Tbsp. in a gallon of water and applied the solution liberally to the base of my Rododendron and soaked it very well. I also sprinkled some of the solution on the leaves. I repeated this several times through out last year.
Yellow Anemia is caused by improper soil acidity which results in a lack of plant nutrition. If I hadn't used Miracid through out last year, I would have eventually lost my plant.
Miracid is very safe and if used correctly it will not burn roots or foilage in hot or dry weather. It's also safe for the environment and safe to use around pets and your family.
I purchased the 1 1/2 lb. size, but it does come in larger sizes and I've seen it in pre-packaged plastic packets also.
Miracid Consists of:
Iron.
Copper.
Zinc.
Manganese.
Soluble Potash.
Baron.
Molybdenum.
Miracid Plant Food is great for all acid loving Evergreens or Flowering shrubs. So if your soil is alkaline, and your flowering shrubs have yellow leaves and you don't get an abundance of flowers, or your Evergreens have yellow needles, give Miracid a try. It will correct the problem by feeding the plant, restoring the proper soil chemistry and will create the perfect environment for beautiful healthy growth. It acidifies, feeds, and ironizes the soil. By feeding your plants and watering often during this growing season it will ensure bigger and better blooms next year.
Has it corrected my problem?
Yes it did. This past spring I had an overly abundance of beautiful flowers, and my leaves were a nice dark green color. As of now my Rhododendron has increased in size (Width and Height). I can't believe the growth and how large it has become since last year. And I finally got rid of those awful yellow leaves, and gained a lot more flowers.
My Rododendron now forms a welcoming back drop for the front of my home. And I fully recommend Miracid Plant food for all your Acid loving Evergreens and Flowering shrubs, which will take them to a whole new Height.
Thanks for reading!!! And please take care of all your growing beauties!!
