Kittyokc's Full Review: Miracle Beam Laser Cat Toy
We kept hearing about these laser toys for cats, they were being advertised on TV left and right and showed cats just going crazy with them. Since Frisky is still a fairly active cat for being 12 and Reva being a hyper little 3 year old, we decided to try one of these laser toys out and picked up the Miracle Beam Laser Cat Toy at Petsmart.
What is it?
This toy is about 2 inches in length, lightweight and is also a key chain. It comes with the two LR-44 batteries, so you don't have to go and buy batteries for it right away, although there is no guarantee how long they'll last since you don't know how long it's been sitting on the store shelf. Ours still shines brightly after about 6 months. I'm not sure what the distance on the light is, but I can easily stand at one end of the hallway and shine the light on the opposite wall and it can clearly be seen. It's easy to use, just push and hold the little button on the side of the toy and the light will shine, stop holding it and the light will go off.
Do the cats like it?
This is where we were surprised. I wasn't expecting Frisky to be too interested in this, he is mostly into strings and toy mice, but even Reva didn't seem interested in it. I would shine it on the floor or wall near her and she would watch it, but that's about it, she didn't go crazy going after that little red light like you see all the cats do in the commercials.
I thought maybe it would take time for her to get used to this type of toy since it was new, I would bring it out every few days to play with her and all she would do was watch it, she never went after the light, in fact sometimes she would turn and look to where the light was coming from, but still never went after it. My 8 year old son has more fun playing with this, just shining it on the wall than the cats do.
Conclusion
While my cats didn't really like this toy, yours might. I would suggest that you try your cats with a flashlight first, if they go after the spot, then they may actually like this laser toy. I keep hearing that cats love these laser toys, so since mine don't, they just reaffirmed the fact that they are unique. If your cats like to going after shining lights, you might want to give this a try, you can easily give your cat some exercise while you sit and relax.
One word of warning though, which is also on the package, do not shine the light into anyones eyes as it can do damage to the eyes, this includes your cat, so if your cat looks to where the light is shining from, promptly shut it off.
The price of the Miracle Beam Laser Cat Toy is not bad compared to others I've seen, this one was under $10 at Petsmart and I've seen other brands sold for $30, so while the cats didn't like it, we didn't waste too much money.
I can't really give this product a bad rating, just because my cats didn't like it doesn't mean yours won't love it, just make sure they like this type of toy first before spending the money.
