Miracle Coat Spray-On Waterless Shampoo: Get Over the TeaTree Oil Scent and it will Do!
Written: Aug 01 '03 (Updated Aug 13 '03)
Pros:It Works Great without Water, Lives up to all expectations
Cons:The Tea Tree Oil Smell for Me
The Bottom Line: The Miracle Coat Spray On Waterless Shampoo is a Miracle that it works so effectively without water needed but I just couldn't get over the scent.
I dont know if you have ever attempted or had the opportunity to wash a three legged dog who is missing a paw in front, but it isnt a pretty sight. The bathtub gets quite slippery and outside he just tends to lay down on one side refusing to roll over. I have had to deal with this on many occasions while bathing my dog, Casey.
May I please introduce you to Miracle Coat Spray On Waterless Shampoo which comes in 12 fl oz (355 ml) with Tea Tree Oil. It is a waterless formula that Miracle Coat has designed to help bath your dog without getting the hose out or dragging them into the bathtub. They also have a waterless formula for cats as well should you be interested in that. My cat is afraid of spray bottles so that wouldnt work. Casey however is a manly man dog aka mommas boy. He does as told.
So I decided to try the Miracle Coat Spray On Waterless Shampoo with Tea Tree oil on Casey as he lay in his luxurious bed of a twin futon with a comforter to boot. I started in the back area around his hind legs and side belly. Here are the directions that come on the bottle:
Directions: Wet coat thoroughly with Miracle Coat Waterless Shampoo working from the tail to the head. Massage gently into coat until silky lather appears.
As I said I started from the back working forward. I sprayed the shampoo onto Casey and my first thought was, My Dog is going to smell like this? I began to massage and a nice lather appeared. I washed away with a dry towel and moved forward. As I sprayed more shampoo onto the backside of Casey, my second thought was, Can I deal with this smell and will it bother Casey to smell like this? I repeated the steps above by lathering, washing off, and drying. By the time I reached the middle of his body I had a lasting thought, Could I possibly deal with Casey smelling like a freak or a huge incense candle? The answer at that point seemed to be No, I couldnt. So I did not fully wash my dog out of embarrassment for him and the incense smell coming out of him. I couldnt put him through that. He is after all a manly man dog, not a darn incense candle.
I couldnt take the smell of Tea Tree Oil anymore. It just wasnt for me and smelled funky on a dog. There was just something off there and I realized half way through how powerful the smell was becoming so I stopped there. So now my dog is half clean. I guess that is better than not clean at all. There were no other ingredients listed on the bottle or I would enclose them with this review.
I do know this much about Miracle Coat. Miracle Coat Spray On Waterless Shampoo is from the Miracle Corporation of Australia out of Dayton, OH. There phone number is 1-800-635-2044, should you have questions or comments. I could not find a website for them.
The Miracle Coat Spray On Waterless Shampoo is supposed to give maximum luster, shine and manageability. I will admit that his coat did look shinier as well as much softer but he still smelled like incense. If your dog has had flea problems in the past, the shampoo is supposed to be soothing for such skin irritations that may still exist. It is all natural and the company is cruelty free which I love to hear.
The Miracle Coat Spray-On Waterless Shampoo works fine if you dont mind the scent of tea tree oil. Some smells I can handle and that just isnt one of them. I love incense as well just not on my dog. Casey didnt seemed to mind the Miracle Coat Spray-On Waterless Shampoo either when I massaged it in or rubbed it off with a towel. I think he just thought he was getting a tummy rub. It was me, the mother, who had taken away the fun.
I do recommend this product to all who would like to bathe their dogs or cats without the hassle of water or a hose. It works well and lives up to all that it says. I, however, am not interested in the Tea Tree Oil and that was my own hang up. Dont let my bias stop you. Take a smell of it at Petsmart or Petco when you see it and if you like the smell, it is well worth the $9.99. It doesnt take a lot of spray for a medium sized dog either, just in case you thought you might go through the bottle quick. So all you Tea Tree Oil Lovers out there, go ahead and try out the Miracle Coat Waterless Spray-On Shampoo, you will fall in love with it!
