| DeRango's Full Review: Miracle-Gro All-Purpose Plant Food |
For those of you, whom have been reading my reviews on garden and lawn products, know that I have had little luck in using products that do exactly what they claim. Miracle-Gro is without a doubt the best product I have used on my plants and flowers. The product does what it claims by not harming my vegetation, and it produces a healthy green lush appearance to all the plants I have used it on.
Miracle-Gro Claims
-Grow more spectacular flowers, bigger vegetables, lush foliage and stronger trees and shrubs!
-The easiest way to feed and water your garden. Great for use with the Miracle-Gro Garden Feeder.
-Instantly feeds through both the leaves (foliar) and roots (soil zones).
-Ideal for all plants (indoor and outdoor), flowers, vegetables, and all soil and water conditions.
-Safe for all plants, won't burn when used as directed.
The product makes some seriously bold claims here, the truth is Ive experienced that all of the claims are without a doubt absolutely true. My flowers are healthier, larger, and extremely lush/green. Im currently using Miracle-Gro on my Hydrangea flowers with excellent results; the leaves are thick, green, and healthy. On top of being healthy the growth is rapid and lush; the plants are generating new buds & growth everyday.
How to Use
OUTDOOR PLANTS
-With a Watering Can: Mix 1 tablespoon of Miracle-Gro for every gallon of water. Exact gallon measurements are not critical, so do not worry if you use a little more.
-For All Flowers and Vegetables: Use 1 gallon for every 10 square feet of flowers and vegetables, every 7 to 14 days.
-For Roses: Use 1/2 gallon for small bushes. Use 1 gallon for large bushes. Feed every 7 to 14 days.
INDOOR PLANTS
-Mix 1 teaspoon (not tablespoon) per gallon of water. Apply every 2 weeks. It does not recommend foliar (leaf) feeding for houseplants.
-If you can make Kool-aid, then you can pull of using this product.
Where to Find it
I purchased Miracle-Gro at my local hardware store (Home Depo), but it is found at Wal-Mart, Ace-Hardware, Lowes, Menards, and local nurseries.
Application
-Feed every 7 to 14 days, anytime during the growing season. Slow-growing plants can be fed less often (monthly).
Where it can be Used
-Can be used for all flowers, vegetables, shrubs, trees and houseplants
-Can also be used with all water types, in all soil types.
Fertilizer Analysis Example
Miracle-Gro Fertilizer Analysis: 24-8-16 with micronutrients
All fertilizers have three numbers on the label which indicate the fertilizer analysis, or "percentage by weight" of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, in that order. Therefore, a 100 pound bag of fertilizer labeled 20-10-5 would contain 20% nitrogen (20 pounds), 10% available phosphates (10 pounds), and 5% soluble potassium (5 pounds).
Nitrogen is a primary nutrient that really makes the plants grow. When you put fertilizer on your lawn, most of the green-up and growth comes from the nitrogen.
Phosphorus is a primary nutrient that encourages rooting, blooming and fruit production in plants.
Potassium helps plants resist disease and aids in winter hardiness.
Shock Treatment
Typically when a plant is transposed from one location to another it experiences a certain level of shock. Through experience Ive learned to lessen the effects of this you can use Miracle-Gro to help the plant better adapt to its new home. Recently I planted seven Hydrangea flowers and only 4 of them made the transfer from pot to ground. I knew that I needed an edge to get those flowers healthier, so when I returned the flowers for replacements I remembered my father using Miracle-Gro on his garden as a child. As if a drug induced flashback occurred, I blurted out loud Thats the Ticket! Of course this was followed by blank stares & muttering from the other customers in the Home Depo. Once I was out of that debacle, I replanted the flowers using Miracle-Gro and Im happy to report, all of my flowers are doing fantastic!
Final Thought
Miracle-Gro is an excellent product, part of the Scotts family. Currently it is the only name I trust because the claims that are made return with near perfect results. I am very satisfied to finally find some yard & garden care products that produce results similar to the claims. The product is as easy to use as watering your flowers, yard, or plants.
