After a long (and lovely) summer where I only went to restaurants I have visited before, I finally went to a new place last week.
Over the years I have worked for a number of different companies and when I have left I have usually managed to stay in touch with former co-workers. One group of co-workers is the group we call ETT (Every Third Tuesday
). We get together on the third Tuesday of every other month and catch up with each other as well as eating well. This past Tuesday we went to Miracle of Science in Cambridge.
Miracle of Science is location at 321 Massachusetts Avenue, which is about a five minute walk from the Central Square T stop (public transportation).
Miracle of Science is a bar and grill. It is a fairly small place with seating for about 30-40 people. There isnt much in the way of decoration. The tables have no cloths or paper on them and the chairs are plain wood chairs. The menu is written on a blackboard on the wall and is made up to look like the periodic table of elements. (I remember that from high school science class.)
The menu is made up of sandwiches, salads, hamburgers and kebabs of various sorts. Our group that evening consisted of four members. We had a cheeseburger, a grilled vegetable kebab and two shrimp kebabs as well as a side of potatoes. The cheeseburger ($8) was served with lettuce, tomato and fries with a pickle on the side. It looked good and Ann cleaned her plate and said that it was good. The vegetable kebabs were ordered by my vegan friend so they are vegan friendly. The skewers had onions, peppers, tomatoes and zucchini on them and came with tortillas, a black bean salad and a cole slaw made with mint. I had the shrimp skewers as did another friend. They came with tortillas, black bean salad, a fruit salsa made with blueberries and pineapple, and mint cole slaw. The shrimp had been marinated in something with a bit of spice and were very good not over cooked.
With the kebabs you can order one skewer ($5 for shrimp, chicken and beef and $3.50 for vegetable) or two skewers ($10 for shrimp, chicken or beef and $7 for vegetable). We each ordered the two skewers.
The potatoes were shared by the table. They were new potatoes sautéed with a little bit o onion and a dash of Tabasco.
Beers and wine were in the $5 range, which is reasonable for the Boston/Cambridge area.
The restaurant was clean, the food was good and the waitress was good at her job. I have only one complaint.
They were playing music (recorded) when I arrived. It was fine. However, around 8:00, they cranked up the music so that you had to bellow to be heard over it. I dont much care for that since I go to dinner with these people to hear what everyone is up to. It isnt surprising since this is a bar and grill but I dont like it because I want to talk to my friends.
Still, noise aside I am planning on returning to Miracle of Science. Ill just plan on being there a little earlier in the evening.
