Pros:Inexpensive, bakes great muffins, have lasted me several years
Cons:Not non-stick, light weight aluminum may not hold up for generations
The Bottom Line: If you don't have mini-muffin pans and don't want to spend $14 for a prestige brand ... give these a try!
Im not sure when my addiction to muffins began
birth maybe? *lol* but I do believe Ive eaten and made my share of muffins in my life. Im not claiming to be a great baker by any means
and more often than not my muffins come from a boxed or bagged mix
but even so
YUMMMMMMMM! And wayyyyy before Hostess or any other snack food company began to market prepackaged bite sized muffins, my mom had purchased a 24-cup mini-muffin pan. So I grew up loving these tiny two bite morsels of oven fresh goodness. Not surprisingly, when I moved away from home and later married, I had to have my own mini-muffin pans! (I own two actually)

Thus the Mirro 12-Cup Aluminum Mini Muffin Pan enters the picture.
This little pan is approximately 10X8 with 12 standard mini-muffin sized cups. I say approximately because I havent actually measured it and I keep putting off writing this review till I remember to do so, but that has been forever, so Im just going to go with the approximate dimensions. If fractions of an inch matter to you then youll need to take your own ruler along when you shop for these.
It is made of lightweight aluminum and does not have a non-stick coating. There is a hold at the center of one side so that you could hang the pan on a nail or hook for storage if desired (who hangs their muffin pans?) This pan is a very inexpensive $1.99-$2.99 depending on where you shop.
~*~ Super inexpensive!
~*~ Makes GREAT mini-muffins
~*~ Has lasted for several years
~*~ Survives my oven and dishwasher just fine
~*~ NOT non-stick
~*~ Very lightweight aluminum
~*~ Looks cheap (i.e. wont impress your baking buddies)
My Personal Thoughts:
In a way I do wish I had a nicer set of mini-muffin pans. Perhaps something a bit heavier, something with a non-stick coating, something that just looked classier. On the other hand, the Mirro Mini-Muffin Pans have served me perfectly well for several years now and they show no signs of wearing out anytime soon. Ive heard that lightweight aluminum doesnt conduct heat as evenly as a heavier pan would, however, Ive never had a problem with unevenly cooked or browned mini-muffins. Perhaps Im just not terribly picky, or perhaps the small size of these treats makes the uneven cooking factor less significant
but either way, Ive experienced no problems.
Since these pans are not non-stick, if I have some mini-muffin cup liners handy, I use them
if I dont, I spray the pan with a little non-stick cooking spray
and again, Ive had no problems. (However, Mirro does offer a non-stick version of this pan for about $5.) Im sure in another couple of years I may have that ever-present, impossible to every totally remove residue in the very creases of each cup, but not yet. And heck, at about $2 each, I can toss them out (or donate them to the sandbox) and buy new ones if the do start to looking too bad!
Ive used these mini-muffin pans for all sorts of breakfast muffins: blueberry, apple cinnamon, banana nut, etc.; for mini-cup cakes from lots of different boxed cake mixes; for yummy cornbread muffins; and even for molding Jello Jigglers in the refrigerator. All of these items have turned out attractive and delicious. I dont know that the pan really has that much to do with the end results, but at least it didnt seem to mess anything up either.
Overall, Im more than happy with my Mirro Mini-Muffin Pans and would recommend them to anyone seeking inexpensive, reliable mini-muffin pans!
