Pros: The book offers a few light bulb moments.
Cons: Most information offered is common sense.
The Bottom Line: This book isn't worth the money. Most of the advice is common sense. McCoy has a very engaging writing style but overall the substance of the information offered is lackluster.

| sparklesky's Full Review: Jonni McCoy - Miserly Moms: Living on One Income i... |
I have long aspired to reform my former spend thrift habits into a new world of frugality. My first plan of attack was to gain a great knowledge of this new world through books. I think I have pretty much read everything, and Miserly Moms happens to be one of the worst on the market.
Jonni McCoy,the author, is a very entertaining writer who could sell ice to an Eskimo. As I was reading her words,I agreed with every letter written. Once I put some of her guidelines into practice however I knew better at once.
McCoy gives the wanna be frugal eleven miserly guidelines to live by. She covers each one by chapter. The best money saving guideline I have found is her number 10-Institute a soup and bread night once per week. Yes,this does save on the grocery bill with little complaint. This little gem of wisdom was worth the cost of the book for me. I just would not have thought of this on my own. Since this worked so well for my family we now also have a breakfast night which costs almost nothing to put together.
Two of her guidelines I just plain out do not agree with, Eliminate convenience foods and Make your own whenever possible. I have found buy shopping sales and using coupons I can buy cheaper in almost every instance.
Advice is also offered from everything from haircuts to legal advice. You get a recipe for toothpaste-hint,go to a dollar store and pick up that essential personal hygiene for a buck-which I find rather silly.
So,in summary, if you really want to start a frugal lifestyle but need a little help-do an internet search with the word frugal. You will find the same information at virtually any site. I recommend www.stretcher.com-all the same information(plus, way more) for nothing. Oh, and start that soup night.
