| gordell's Full Review: Mississippi Mud Black & Tan 1 Quart |
Initially, the bottle caught my attention. Of all of the beer bottles I have ever encountered, this one is truly exceptional. So much so, that every empty container I have given away has been given a place of respect on a shelf or knick-knack table. But all of this has very little to do with that important issue--the beer inside!
Having experienced a variety of "black and tans" in various brew pubs, I must admit that I was a bit disappointed when Mississippi mud failed to separate in fashion I expected. I'm not really certain that it is possible to put a real black and tan in a bottle.
After overcoming the visual appearance, I was most surprised by the taste. The overall flavor is rich, with hints of chocolate and coffee. Compared to other beers in a similar price range, I would rank Mississippi Mud as a good choice for the money.
In my opinion, it is certainly a cut above Beck's or St. Pauli Girl's Dark, but not quite up there with Samuel Adams Porter.
Since beer is largely a matter of personal taste, I would suggest you try this one for yourself. If you like dark beers, you might find this one quite nice.
