Pros: Stability, carves with ease
Cons: Can become bulky in 20+ knot wind conditions and in certain freestyle tricks.
The Bottom Line: This is a great board for those transitioning to a shortboard from a longboard

| wndsrfgrl's Full Review: Mistral Flow 284 |
I have the 2000 Mistral Flow 284 (red & white). It was my first shortboard after learning on a Hi-Fly (the big barge) and moving on to the Mistral Malibu.
I absolutely love this board. It didn't take me long at all to learn how to plane, get into my footstraps, to carve jibe, and to do freestyle moves.
While jibing this board carves as though it's on rails. It's so smooth and can be forgiving if you just happen to screw up that almost perfect jibe. The board is wonderful if you're not ready to go face-to-face with the chop. It cuts through them like a sharp knife slicing through cheese.
I found it to be a perfect fit with the Retro Sailworks sails (5.5, 6.0, 7.0) in 15 - 20knot winds. As the wind increases over 20 knots, so does the bulky feel of the board, unfortunately. The board is also difficult to maneuver on certain moves like Push Tacks and Chop Hops.
If you're considering a first-time shortboard then I would highly recommend this board. :)
