Good VCR

The Mitsubishi HS-U448 is a great VCR for the money. It is one of the very few quality VCRs left on the market as of April 2004. I was very excited to find a black 17" chassis high quality VCR in a local specialty electronics store after a long search through VCRs that have been stripped of their quality in an effort to reduce costs. The picture quality of this unit is very good for pre-recorded video tapes and the recording quality is good for a VCR. Recording is very easy with several different methods available for programming. The clock sets itself which is a nice feature. Another nice feature is the 43 second rewind of a T-120 tape. My only complaints about this VCR are cosmetic. The front panel is actually charcoal gray instead of black and the clock is lit in green instead of gray/blue so it doesn't quite match my black stereo components, but it is the closest thing that have been able to find. The index search feature is very nice. The VCR inserts an index mark on the tape when recording is started and will automatically fast forward or rewind to these marks with the index search buttons on the remote. The commercial skip feature is nice too, but not as advanced. The VCR also will display on the TV how much time is left on the tape. This is very nice when setting up to record. The sound of the motor in the unit is very tight and solid, not clicky like most cheaper VCRs. The only problem that I have had is that the remote won't work with my JVC flat screen TV. It does come with a universal remote that will work with most TVs, just not the one that I have it hooked up to. I'll just call that bad luck. Overall, I think that this is the best standard VHS VCR currently on the market and would highly recommend it to anyone.
