| timmy1122's Full Review: Mizuno Baseball/Softball Gloves- Generation MZG 00... |
First of all, this glove can be tricky to find. I still don't know what the deal is, but many of the companies that claim to carry this glove actually don't. And to start with very few Mizuno dealers carry this glove to begin with. Anyway it is available through a few distributors. And through most companies this glove is pretty cheap as well. At $125 this glove is a bargain. Don't pay more than $150.
First of all this is a Utility/Pitcher's glove. Any position besides first and catcher, can be played with this glove. It may be a tad big for second base and maybe a tad small for outfield but that's what you get in a utility glove. This glove also features a completely closed, the web is actually a single piece of leather. This is certainly innovation on the part of Mizuno.
The Generation series gloves are made to be lightweight. They are supposed to be 17% lighter than the average glove. This attracted me because that means better glove control. Unfortuneately it seems Mizuno just used thin leather in several parts of the glove. This did lighten the weight, but I'm guessing this glove will also have a shorter life than an average glove. Nevertheless the glove is a high quality Mizuno glove.
My experiences have been excellent so far with this glove. The thin leather makes for faster break-in. The glove breaks in quickly, but you will need a little oil. I have gotten reasonable use out of the glove and expect plenty more out of it, but it won't last as long as some other high end models. Actually though for it's price range this glove has excellent durability.
This is a great utility glove if you plan on playing more than one position, and don't want to have the hassle of 2 gloves. The life span may be a little shorter than some gloves, but remember the glove is lightweight and has great control. If the glove were a little thicker in a few spots I think it would compare to the Mizuno pro models, which are top of the line. So it's a trade-off you trade life span for control and weight. Even being a tad thin this glove has plenty of padding for those blistering line drives.
A few final notes: This glove also looks awesome, it has a modern flair unlike most of the traditional Mizuno's. The yellow logos against the black glove look great!
