natemes's Full Review: Mobility iGo PS00265-0001 Everywhere Charger Car /...
I own several Igo charger products and have been happy with all of them. The general idea is to have one "charger" and then use multiple "tips" for different devices. So I have a tip that fits in the charging port of my phone, one for my blackberry, another for my MP3 player, etc. Yes, you do have to buy multiple tips which isn't cheap but you then don't have to carry multiple chargers. The other advantage to the system is being able to simply buy other tips for future devices rather than whole new chargers.
The iGo everywhere being reviewed here is a very compact, versatile charging solution for small electronics--phones, PDA's, MP3/Ipods, small games, cameras, GPS, Amazon Kindles, etc (won't work with laptops though.)
The kit consists of two plug-in bits, one for a car cigarette lighter sort of plug and one for standard two-prong American style electrical outlets. There is also a retractable cord that extends to around 5 ft. in length and retracts into itself with the push of a button. Tips are not included though there is a little case that fits everything. Overall, the package is small and lightweight. Dimensions and details taken from iGo are below:
Wall charger • Output Power: 5 watts • Input Voltage: 100-240 VAC • Dimensions: 3.25 x 2.00 x 1.00"
Car charger • Output Power: 5 watts • Input Voltage: 11.5-16.0 VDC • Dimensions: 3.63 x 1.00 x 1.00"
Retractable Cord • Case Dimensions: 1.89 x 2.28 x 0.91" (48mm x 58mm x 23mm thick) • Cord Length: 5.0' (1.52m)
As you can see, the whole package is the size of a couple of packs of cards or a so, and very light. I keep one in my car with a set of tips for my various devices--it also travels with me. The variable input voltage for the device also means it should be fine during overseas travel with the right plug adaptors.
Although I wish it could also charge my laptop, carrying one small case to allow me to charge the four or five devices I routinely carry at any outlet or in any car works well for me. The various pieces feel sturdy and the retractable cord seems well-built. There are tips for practically any device out there and even a AA battery charger than can be used with the system. I have trouble imagining a simpler, smaller way to provide power for common devices than the iGo Everywhere.
