My Mom first introduced us to Model Magic, giving my then 2 1/2 yr. old a bag to play with. I couldn't pry it from her hands for days, until it dried up because she wouldn't let me put it in a bag. She's since had much more of it pass through her little hands.
Model Magic is much like other clays and Play Doh, in that you can roll it, squish it, or mold it into any number or things. Only your imagination can dictate what you can make with this. It has a smooth, spongy texture, is easy to manipulate with little fingers, and doesn't crumble. It comes in your basic colors--red, white, blue, and green and has a mixing chart on the package. I haven't seen other colors, but they may be out there.
They also come in packages with several colors(smaller amounts) and things like cookie cutters, cutting tool(plastic knife like tool-does have a sharp end), roller, and fluted edge cutting wheel.
Model Magic has been a life saver when we go out to eat. My 3 year old doesn't sit still for long, so I take a new bag of Model Magic and present her with it as soon as she starts getting antsy. It has really worked well for us and doesn't make a mess, or have small parts to lose.
Model Magic is a great workout for the imagination, and you'll find you want to get in on the fun too. Watch out! It is addictive and your kids will be fighting to get it back from you!
There are a few things to be aware of when using Model Magic:
1) Model Magic can stain. It states this on the bag, and it has gotten on my wall and carpet. It washed pretty well off the wall though. Just be careful with it.
2)Model Magic does not come in a re-sealable container. I really wish it did. If you don't use it all in one setting, be sure to store it in an airtight container for future use. It will dry out. We haven't had much luck keeping it for long periods of time( mostly because I can't keep track of it, or keep it away from my daughter for more than 2 minutes)but other people I know have kept it for longer periods of time successfully.
3) Don't get Model Magic wet. It "melts" and the color rubs off on everything making a mess
4) This isn't a downside, but it does not go into the oven, and keep it away from flames. Just FYI.
We really do love this product. It really stimulates kids imaginations.
It is inexpensive at about $1.99 a bag, so give it a try!
