| KMINER's Full Review: Mohawk Home Recycled Rubber Floormat - Patio Stone |
Our house sees a lot of traffic in and out it's front door. With 5 people and 5 pets living inside, it ought to! We've found that placing a floormat just outside the main door entrance has really helped cut down on the dirt (and red clay!) that tracks into the house. Since the door opens to our tiled kitchen we wanted ways to hopefully keep that area clean as clean of debris getting tracked in as possible.
We've purchased a lot of "outdoor mats", at various prices. Some have been very cute and seasonal, but none have lasted more than one season .. until we started purchasing Mohawk Home Recycled Rubber Floormats. We've owned a few different styles over the years, and my current favorite is their Patio Stone design.
We purchased Mohawk Home Recycled Rubber Floormats at our local Lowe's store, but they are for sale a variety of places on-line as well. We really believe in the concept of trying to use recycled materials where we can - so long as the product we have purchased works well for our needs. We have found that these mats, made out of recycled rubber, are more durable and long lasting than any other outdoor mat we have tried!
From the company:
"An estimated 90,000 lbs of recycled rubber is used daily in the manufacturing of doormats - an estimated 15 million lbs of car & truck tires are used - over 215,000 tires annually are saved from landfills - our recycled rubber mat is made up of at least 96% recycled rubber
This mat is 100% polyester face with 100% recycled rubber back. It has all weather durability, unique functional design, removes debris from shoes, and is easy to clean."
This particular mat, designed in Patio Stone, is 18 inches by 30 inches. We paid $14 for it, and I have seen their mats range from $14 to $20. It feels heavier than typical outdoor mats to me and you can really tell there's a solid rubber backing to it - and you can totally get a "tire" vibe from it. The patio stones are designed just as pictured - with multi colored stones creating a pattern in the center and pebble-like stones serving as a border. The pattern is raised up and textured, and so serves as an excellent way to wipe off shoes and the like before entering the house.
There isn't a lot of care for this mat. The company recommends cleaning it with a vacuum or shaking it out. It states you can occasionally rinse it with a garden hose. I don't personally use a vacuum on it, and I shake it out a few times a week. I do use the hose on it on occasion to rinse it off, I'd say maybe once each season? It dries quickly and I usually lay it out on the driveway to get some sun and heat.
The durability factor on this Mohawk Home Recycled Rubber Floormat is unreal. We've found, rather than seasonally, we replace ours every 2-3 years. They really do, even when we replace them, not really "fall apart" as the designs eventually wear down and I don't feel the mat looks as decorative. We'll take older mats and move them to less used entrances and keep the new one purchased for the front door!
These Mohawk Home Recycled Rubber Floormats have replaced all other outdoor mats in our home, and the Patio Stone is probably my favorite for all around use. It doesn't have a cute and seasonal design, but it goes with anything and looks great outside year round. This company took a lot of care to use something that would help our environment and yet be very decorative, functional and durable. I could not be more pleased with this product!
