| nielson51's Full Review: Mongoose Aluminum Mountain Bike XR-100 |
A few months ago, I was thinking about how I could save money on transportation. There is no bus service in the small town that I live in. I decided to by a bicycle instead of driving so much. I decided I didn't want the most expensive bike out there. I figured, hey Wal-mart might have the bike that I'm looking for. I got there and started looking at bikes.
I wanted the best bike I could get for about $100. The Mongoose Aluminum Mountain Bike XR-100 caught my eye, with its red sleek design. I looked at its price tag and to my amazement it was only $100, I bought it. It is an excellent bike to hop on and go for a short ride or go somewhere quick, like to class, work, or ect. This is defiantly not the best bike I have ever ridden compared to the bikes worth a thousand bucks it sucks. But for the buck you pay it is worth it and will get you around to where you need to go.
PRO'S
This bike was defiantly cheap; this is good because if it is stolen it won't be a huge blow to your wallet. It rides smooth with its shocks. When you hit a bump you won't even feel it. The gears can be change with just a simple twist of you wrist. It has a 21-speed SRAM shifting. The brakes are linear pull brakes and are on the front and back tire and they work like a charm. My favorite thing about riding this bike is the suspension it is a dual suspension frame. It supports my entire two hundred pound body frame. I am glad that I decided to buy this bike; it has and is treating me well other than the accessional tune up and chain oiling.
CON'S
When I first got the bike, it wasn't fit to ride, it needed a little tune up. Therefore, I had to go through the bike and tighten up the brake cables. I also had to tighten a few bolts on the handle bars with an allen wrench. The seat is to narrow, therefore uncomfortable to ride on for long periods. The frame is made from cheap aluminum. This bike isn't made to go up and ride in rough terrain, it wouldn't hold up for to long. The gears don't change very smoothly, it may take a couple of seconds after you change gear with your hand to actually change the chain on the gears. The tires are not the best. Like the rest of the bike they are built cheap. I haven't gotten a flat yet. They hold air good; I have not had to pump the tires up after the first that I bought it. I am 6' tall and it is a touch on the small side. The pedals have come loose a couple of times, requiring a wrench to tighten them to help keep you safe. The bike came with no warranty.
