rgathright's Full Review: Monster Cable Products Monster Beats Headphones (M...
Beats By Dr. Dre arrived on front porch step as a birthday present last October. My parents knew that I enjoyed technophile gadgets and that my old Sony MDR-V150 headphones were getting worn after many years of use.
I have used the headphones everyday at work since October. They are very comfortable because of the deep foam padding and soft covering that wraps my ears. The adjustable headband, swiveled earpiece cups and fold up design allow me to reach the ultimate comfort level quickly.
Pimpin Product Packaging And Swag The headphones come in a very stylish red box that folds out to reveal a touring case, batteries, cleaning cloth to help your new toy stay clean, two audio cables, instructions and a 1/8” inch to ¼” stereo adapter for use on almost any audio device.
The touring case features a zipper with protective padding and is my favorite piece of swag. At the end of the day, I put my Beats back in the touring case and in a drawer to keep them safe.
How Does Beats By Dr.Dre Sound? If you are new to powered headphones then these are going to be a real treat to your ears. The entire range of sound is clearer and more dynamic as the highs give way to rumbling bass. I use the headphones with a Sony CD Walkman D-NF340 while programming next to a loud server room and find they do an effective job of drowning outside noise away. You can easily blow out your ear drums with these so keep your finger on the volume control for the first few days.
I have also tried several Bose Quiet Comfort headphones but found that they do not have the musical range that Beats By Dr.Dre have. They will do a slightly better job of noise cancelling and the rechargeable batteries on some models are real treat. Yet if you simply want amplified, rumbling, sound Dr.Dre’s are better.
Battery Life Of Beats By Dr. Dre My biggest complaint is the lack of rechargeable batteries in these headphones. Using the supplied Duracell AAA batteries, I was able to use these headphones for approximately 24 hours of run time. The power switch has a built in LED that glows red while in use. When the batteries get low, the LED light changes to amber color. Removing the batteries is a tricky because you must twist the cap on the left ear cup counter-clockwise and then pry out the used AAA’s.
Features Of Beats By Dr. Dre * Built-In Mute button on right ear cup * Powered isolation technology reduces external noise * Swiveled earcups with 3.5” high, foam, cushions for ultimate comfort * iSonitalk cable with answer button and microphone lets you make phone calls with Apple iPhones * 4’ Monster headphone cable with Quadripole design for increased audio clarity
Summary Let me make this real simple, if you want to hear a deep bass line that cannot be heard from non-powered headphones and want to look cool in the process then Beats By Dr.Dre headphones are going to be perfect for you. I am happy that received these as a present though because I am resistant to shelling out $300 for a set of headphones.
However, for the audiophile that respects every note and pitch of music then this product is inevitably going to let you down because it cannot compete with the higher end models on the market today.
In all, I give Beats By Dr.Dre two thumbs up for the booming sound and impressive product packaging.
