Montecristo has a reputation for producing some of the finest cigars in the world, so you can imagine I was somewhat excited to get my hands on one of their upscale, top of the line, high dollar Cigare Des Artes Belicoso Largas. I had purchased the Menendez y Garcia torpedo collection from J.R. Cigar and this cigar just happened to be one of the torpedos I would get to sample. Actually, this stick had the highest suggested retail price of any cigar in the collection, so I saved it for a special occasion.
Man, was I disappointed! I had previously tried the Montecristo #2, which was truly a phenomenal smoke, so I expected this one to be better, right? Wrong! This cigar exhibited only average taste and construction. I had to re-light it more than once, as it kept going out. There was nothing special about the flavor or the aroma. My friends around me weren't impressed with the smell, despite my insistence that this was a very special cigar. When I tried to remove the band, as I often do when my cigars begin to get shorter, it caught on a vein in the wrapper and sliced a fairly large piece of the wrapper off. I,m convinced that the large, full color band can be the only reason for this highly overpriced Monty! So please, do yourself a favor and save your money. For the price of this cigar you could try two or three other high quality cigars that you would probably enjoy quite a bit more.
