Brilliant and beautiful review. (Reply to this comment)

I love Rushdie, partially because of his incredible ability to twist a phrase just oddly enough to make me want to read it over and over. Points in this review have that same ability.

Thanks,
Amy

My Confession (Reply to this comment)

I felt guilty because I had even hesitated reading your piece on Rushdie. I began reading, wondering about my hesitation, and then you hit the nail on the head: "if you've never read any Salman Rushdie, you've probably heard that he's intellectual, allusive, and perhaps difficult to read." Yup, yup.

While I may not hotfoot it to the bookstore for a Rushdie volume, I will rethink my preconceptions. Great piece!

I hang my head in shame as being one of ... (Reply to this comment)

...the philistines who has simply not made the time to look beyond the headline descriptions of Rushdie and his work, and actually pick one up and read it.

This is a most persuasive review that will undoubtedly make me seek this one out the next time I opt in for a passel of new books.

Thank you. Beautifully done.
