My husband and I recently purchased two of these motorola Talkabouts as gifts for his father and his father's girlfriend. They are two very hard to buy for people and when we came across this product, we knew it would be perfect for these two outdoors persons.
We purchased them through the internet ( I don't know the address since my husband did it at work) and paid approximately $110 a piece. It was about twice as much as some other brands but had more features.
The best part about this product is its ability to go up to a two mile range, and just a bit over that if you are on flat lands with no interference between the two of you. These are great for hunting, especially rabbit hunting, and for road trips when two cars are going somewhere and you need to talk to each other without stopping. There is no monthly fee or anything like that to run these, they are purely walkie talkies.
The other good thing about this product is their size. They are very small and can easily fit in a pocket or purse. That is important when you are already lugging a backpack and gun through the woods. The LCD readout is also back lit for night viewing. And you can change the channels to get a clearer sound.
All in all, a great product and also a great gift idea when you can't think of anything else. I know my father-in-law was very suprised and delighted when he opened his package. And they tell us how they use them all the time, even in large stores or malls when they want to split up but don't want to lose each other. The uses are endless.
