Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros:Flashlight, weather channel, long charge.
Cons:Extremely short range, transmission not very clear.
The Bottom Line: Find a different walkie for better performance. 2.5 stars.
Preparing for our move from Montana to Ohio, we were in definite need of a set of walkie talkies. We had originally gone for a different model from Motorola, but this one was a higher model number and happened to be on sale that weekend. I think at the end of it all, we should have went with the other model that had wonderful reviews, this one largely disappointed us.

It claimed to work for up 35 mile range. I found this to largely be untrue and instead it seemed to work best at a half mile range. I had to physically see my fiance's truck behind me in order for it to work, and even then if he was too far back it was very fuzzy. At first I thought this could have been because we were traveling through the mountains in the first part of trip, however then we got to flat nothingness and the range remained the same.
When we were in range, it was still hard to understand what the other person was saying. We tried the different volumes, channels, etc and still would have to repeat everything we said twice. You also couldn't start talking right away, but had to wait 3-4 seconds after pressing the button in order to get a clearer message across. This was especially frustrating when the lead car would see an obstruction ahead (debris in the road, deer at the side of the road) and couldn't get the message across quickly. At one point I said the same thing 3 times and by the time my fiance finally understood, he had passed the small dog dangerously wandering by the side of the highway.
There were a couple good points on these radios. In a pinch we were able to relate to each other when we needed to stop or what highway to take up ahead. It also had a weather channel you could get at points too which was interesting. The charge on these were excellent and lasted the 18 hour days we were driving. They also had a nifty little flashlight feature which was good for finding things in the car at night. There were several other features on this walkie, but as I didn't use them I can't comment on them.
I definitely wouldn't recommend buying this model. Despite the few good things about it there was more bad. What could have made the trip easier, instead made our trip more stressful than it needed to be. It was a tough haul and I would have loved to have a better working radio for all those times it was required.
