Having been a long time PDA user, I was greatly anticipating this reasonably priced, sleek smartphone. I was sorely disappointed with it's performance, and after extending my trial period to give it a fair chance, I have given up and am going back to the less glamorous, but reliable Treo.
The Pros:
1. One cannot deny that there is a definite coolness factor--this phone looks great. It is significantly slimmer than its competitors
2. The screen is very bright and the colors are vibrant
3. You can download and assign your own mp3s as ringtones instead of relying on what comes with the phone or ringtones you have to buy
4. The audio quality from the earpiece is crisp and clear. It is by far the best of any cellphone I have owned since 1992! That alone made me think twice about returning it...
5. It syncs easily with Outlook via ActiveSync.
Cons:
1. Program is slow--takes along time for the phone to figure out what you want it to do. The tech said it is because to many programs are running at once and to go into Task Mgr and close some of them. Who has time to do this when they are driving or trying to set up appointments on the fly? Even with just the phone, calendar and bluetooth running, the phone is still slow and gets hung up.
2. Phone crashes on a regular basis--the little icon just spins and spins. Must reboot to fix.
3. Has the nasty little habit of opening programs for which you haven't requested. Nothing like opening voice command when you've requested the calendar!
4. Bluetooth has a hard time keeping the connection. Disconnects calls, or puts you on mute.
5. Contact list mysteriously disappeared, then reappeared the next day. One can only wonder where it 'went'.
6. DOES NOT SYNC OUTLOOK NOTES!!!! What idiot made that decision?? The tech said the work around for this issue was to put your Notes as a Task. WOW--what a gaff!
7. Does not allow you to permanently filter your contact list, so you get the whole list everytime, and must scroll through it instead of opening to a "Quick List" or frequently called number list
8. No Wi-Fi, but then they never said there was. It would have been a nice feature.
9. Never did get the flash on the camera to work. Pictures are ok.
10. Documents are read only. So small that you have to work the zoom to be able to read them. If you have saved your Outlook Notes as a document, accessing them through this method is slow and cumbersome. Better off saving them as a 'Task' as the tech suggested.
11. NO TOUCH SCREEN. All navigation is done through the soft keys, or the scroll wheel on the side. Lots of navigation to get to the app you want.
12. Scroll key is stiff and inaccurate, often resulting in opening the wrong program.
13. Programs stay open after changing to another screen, slowing the OS down and causing lockups. Programs must be manually closed before opening another window to prevent this.
14. This just may be something I was doing wrong, but if I was on the phone trying to open my calendar to record an appt., I would invariably hang up on my caller. Not good...
15. Much scrolling and clicking to get to the program or app you want....
16. The phone does offer speed dial for its apps, but the problem with that is that the speed dial is not reliable, sometimes opening the wrong program, at other times trying to dial a number, or finally, not responding at all. On top of those is issues, is trying to remember what speed dial number you assigned to what program and person
17.Makes strange noises that I have yet to figure out....they're some kind of alert, but what? I had all the alerts turned off. I am tired of it waking me up at 2 am chirping.
18. Would like opening screen/wallpaper to be my calendar. I am sure there is a third party app that will do that, but haven't looked. Also, would like to be able to view a week of appts instead of having them represented as blue blocks.
Bottomline--this phone would be ok for a light user, but if you are used to using a PDA as a real tool, I'd steer away from it. It is very nice to look at and hold, but not very functional.
