| deb0528's Full Review: Motorola StarTAC ST7867W Cell Phone |
I currently own 2 of these phones (Sprint) and previously owned 2 of them (Ameritech -- when it was Ameritech), and I own another StarTac (older, Verizon) which is not web capable. Obviously, I like the StarTac! The first reason I wanted a StarTac was because it was small enough to fit in my purse, all the time. I could always have my phone with me, which is very convenient, and then you don't have to worry about someone breaking in your car to steal your phone. It's light-weight, and just plain -- not flashy; good looking enough for business or pleasure. The backlight is very bright, and the display letters/numbers are larger on this model than on previous models, making it easier to read. The phone book is great, as it still stores only 99 numbers, but you can have 4 numbers for each one stored (i.e., at memory 01, you can have home, work, cell & pager all stored under 01). One touch voicemail retrieval is very convenient, and really, it shouldn't be any other way. I would not buy a phone that didn't have it. The web feature is nice, but I always have trouble logging off. I find it easiest to power off, then power on again. Battery and signal strength indicators always show, as does a "D" when you're in digital. This phone lets you be creative with your banner, which is a little fun thing. Has several (but I forget how many) different ring tones, as well as off and vibrate. Also shows the time (always). Although, I'm not sure if the time feature is Motorola or Sprint. My Ameritech StarTacs did not show the time, and Ameritech told me it was Motorola that took it away. I'm not sure that was accurate information. The battery strength has always been fine for me, and I have had this particular phone (with the original battery) for 14 months. I have a 1000 peak and 2000 offpeak plan -- just to give you an idea of how much I use my phone -- I usually go over my minutes. :( I almost always just plug it into the desktop charger (which comes with the phone) when I go to bed. Sometimes I forget -- it's usually fine for another day. The phone also comes with a belt clip, which is convenient for when you aren't carrying your purse, and an extra battery, which I have never used. It also comes with an "earbud" for hands-free use, which works, but falls out of your ear all the time, and I found pretty much useless. I bought a regular headphone, and that is just the most awesome invention!
