| surferdude7's Full Review: Motorola V323 Cell Phone |
The Motorola V323 is a stylish CDMA phone at a midrange price with a built-in camera. The big improvement for the V323 is the mini-USB charging port like on the RAZR. Most of the older Motorola phone has those terrible charger connections that you had to wiggle half the time just to get them to work. The V323 is made for cellular networks using CDMA 800/1900 MHz and 800 AMPS.
The Style!
The V323 looks are very similar to many of the low to mid range priced phones that Motorola has carried for years. What makes this model so attractive is the color, it is a real light silver grey trimmed in a brushed silver and silver trimmings. This is an attractive color and design that does not show fingerprints very easily.
The outside display is in monochrome LCD with details of the time, signal strength, roaming, mail, battery life and more. The camera lens is above the outside LCD screen. Beside the lens is a small round mirror for self-portraits.
The outside buttons are like most of their phones, the left buttons are for volume control and the lower one for turning on/off the speakerphone. The right side button is for voice recognition.
Flipping the phone open brings you to a beautiful nice color LCD, 1.9" TFT (176 x 220 pixel) screen, trimmed with a mirror around it that makes the screen stand out. The inside LCD and mirror trim is prone to fingerprints, but this is well deigned because this is an area that I seldom touch.
The keypad is a typical layout with a direct key to turn on the camera.
The Camera!
The camera is not much, a standard VGA camera with settings of small (120 x 160), medium (240 x 320) and large (480 x 640). However, it does take some decent photos that look great on the phone, but not great for a photo print.
There are a few options for the camera, like adjusting the contrast, quality (Good, Better, Best), Shutter tone (Different sound for taking a photo), Auto timer (5 seconds), Zoom (1x, 2x, 4x) and a few more. There is about 12MB of memory built-in and over half of is taken up buy the ring tones and other items Motorola has placed on the phone. There is no way to add any memory.
Features!
In addition to the camera, the V323 has BREW built-in for ring tones, games and application downloads. There is a web browser for surfing the internet. BREW and web browser depend upon your cellular provider and there usually is an extra charge for these if you wish to use them.
There is a media gallery for the camera, photos and sounds. There is a built-in calculator, alarm clock, date book and more. There are no games on this model.
You can custom set may features for the color LCD screen. There is no Bluetooth, but before the years is out the Motorola V323i is coming out that is identical to the V323 with added Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is a necessary feature for you, then just wait a little longer for the V323i.
Other features are Text messaging, MMS/picture messaging, advanced speech recognition, ring-tones and more. Seventy-two ring-tones come on the V323.
There is up to 3.25 hours talk time and up to 200 hours standby time.

My Thoughts!
This is nice phone that I helped setup for the cellular carrier that I work for. The positives for me are the style, color, easy to use and great reception. The only negative I have on the phone is no Bluetooth, because I use Bluetooth all the time. I am supposed to get the V323i with Bluetooth for testing by the end of the month, I am looking forward to the Bluetooth version.
The built-in camera does a fair job and looks decent when displayed on the LCD screen of the V323, but as far as photos for printing, they lack on quality. I printed a couple of 4 x 6 inch prints that I took with the camera and they looked fair, though not as good as a digital camera photo. Get the phone for a phone and not for family portraits.
For reception, we tested the V323 in the 800MHz, the 1900MHz and the 800 AMPS because we use all three technologies. I live and work in the 800MHz area, so it takes about a 2 ˝-hour drive one-way to test the 1900MHz; the 800 AMPS can be tested in both areas. Bottom line, in all areas the reception was flawless, even in low signal areas. Bench testing the V322 showed it was average on RF power in all three frequencies ranges and passed all of the bench tests.
The BREW and the web work flawlessly for us, even though the web is a little slow. There are a few nice photos in the phone for nice wallpaper background on the LCD and some decent ring tones. No games included, but I downloaded a couple through BREW at an extra cost, the games work well, but they are so small on the screen for me.
This phone retails for around $169, which is a mid range cost, through our 2 year contract it can be bought at $29, making it very attractive to the consumer.
The V323 is a replacement for us from the Motorola V266, which was a good phone, except for the old style changing port. The V323 also is much more attractive then the black V266.
Overall the Motorola V323 is another winner!
