| loves2run's Full Review: Motrin Cold & Flu |
It is that time again, Cold and Flu Season! School is back in session and time for all those germs to be passed around from child to child. Practicing good hand washing with an antibacterial soap* can help, but does not always guarantee that cold and flu germs will not make their way into your household.
If you have read any of my other reviews you will know that I am a bargain shopper. I will buy products because they are on sale or I have a coupon making them cheaper than other brands. I just wish when it came to adult cold medications, that I would learn just because it is cheaper does not mean it is better. I have tried many over-the-counter cold medications over the years, brand names and generic. For the last three years none can beat the performance of Alka-Seltzer® Plus Liqui-Gels®, but instead of sticking to them, I succumb to my cheapskate tendencies and buy whatever I can find to be cheaper. Which overall does not save me any money because after a day or two of suffering, I will end up at the store purchasing the Alka-Seltzer® Plus.
WHY COULDN’T YOU LIVE UP TO YOUR NAME
One of the products I purchased recently to relieve cold and flu symptoms was Motrin® Cold & Flu. I really had hopes for this product. Motrin® was a name I trusted for pain relief. When I saw that they now made a cold and flu product, I thought I had hit a jackpot especially since my supermarket had a sale that combined with a coupon that they doubled, I would get them for a fraction of the normal cost. Thank goodness I did not pay full price.
I remember taking the recommended one caplet and thinking it won’t be long now and I will be able to breathe again. When I didn’t find any relief after an hour, I took a second caplet as the package recommended. Waited and still no relief. My body wasn’t aching as much, but I still could not breathe. I thought at the time, maybe I just needed to wait and in four hours when I could take a second dosage, it would work then. After the second dose, I noticed that my stomach wasn’t feeling all that well, a result of the ibuprofen in this product.
I really didn’t want to admit that this product didn’t work for me, so I kept taking it for couple days till I finally decided I had given it long enough to work. I dragged myself off the couch and went to the store and promptly bought the Alka-Seltzer® Plus.
Now, I know they did not work for me, so why when the same supermarket was running a sale on Motrin® Cold & Flu again, did I buy more? With the coupon, I was able to get them for free, once a bargain hunter always a bargain hunter. I went ahead and got them and sent them to my parents as I do with other products I don’t use but get for a “can’t be beat” price.

RECOMMENDATION
I really wanted to be able to recommend Motrin® Cold & Flu however, I just feel there are better products on the market that will help relieve your cold and flu symptoms much better and with less stomach upset.
*It is recommended that you wash your hands for at least 30 seconds with an antibacterial soap to kill the germs and bacteria that cause viruses and the flu. There is an interesting article in “Rosie The Magazine with Personality™”, November 2001 edition where a study was conducted on the effectiveness of antibacterial soap. For the best results it is advised that you wash your hands for a full minute, but getting children to do that can be difficult. They want to wash and go. Getting them to wash for at least 30 seconds is a more realistic goal and one that is beneficial to killing germs. The article is titled “Germ-o-phobe Tracy Chutorian Semler scrubs with antibacterial soap, but is that really enough to protect herself and her kids? What the experts say.”
