Pros: Effective for pain relief. Gentler for your stomach than aspirin products
Cons: Availability?
The Bottom Line: Motrin is a highly effective pain reliever for headaches, cramps, muscle aches/pain. I highly recommend it to anyone who is not allergic or has problems with Ibuprofen products.

| Suzer's Full Review: Motrin Ib |
I don't know about you, but when I get a severe headache, menstrual cramps, or muscle aches, it can bring on a feeling of helplessness. I am not able to take aspirin or aspirin products, as they wreak havoc with my stomach, and I don't want to add to the symptoms I am already experiencing. Like everyone, I want to feel better, and feel better fast, so I can accomplish what I need to, or merely enjoy life. It is difficult to do so with a bad headache. My product of choice for many years was Nuprin, and I was very disappointed when they stopped manufacturing it. I then went on a search for the next most effective product. The products that work best for me are Motrin IB, Aleve, and Advil (to be reviewed in the near future). Please see the appropriate review links below if you would like to learn more about Aleve, and the now defunct Nuprin.
Motrin is for you if. . .
Take Motrin IB if you need it to relieve headaches, muscle aches, minor pain from arthritis, toothache, pain from colds, menstrual cramps or to reduce your fever.
Packaging:
Motrin is packaged in a "bold" (their word) orange/red box. Each tablet (capsule) contains 200 mg of Ibuprofen, and it will cost around $6.99-$9.00
Directions for use:
They suggest that adults take 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours for the period of time you are experiencing symptoms. However, if by taking 1 tablet, pain is not alleviated or fever does not go down, increase to 2 tablets. You should not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours though, unless instructed to do so by a doctor. You should take the least amount that is effective. IF you tend to have heartburn and or any type of stomach problems, be sure to take with either food or milk.
Store at room temperature. Avoid excessive heat 40°C (104°F).
Ingredients:
Active Ingredients: Ibuprofen (200 mg)
Inactive Ingredients: Carnuba Wax, Corn Starch, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Iron Oxide Black, Pregalatinized Starch, Propylene Glycol, Silicon Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Titanium Dioxide
There are numerous warnings on the packaging-here are just a few. Read all before purchasing/ingesting.
Allergy Alert: ibuprofen may cause a severe allergic reaction which may include: hives, asthma (wheezing), facial swelling, shock.
Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any other pain reliever/fever reducer.
Stop use and ask a doctor if an allergic reaction occurs.
Seek medical help right away.
There can be a problem if you ingest 3 or more alcoholic beverages a day. If you do so, taking this or similar products can cause stomach bleeding.
Children: Do not give this product to children under 12 except under the advice and supervision of a doctor.
You shouldn't take more than suggested by the manufacturer, and of course keep from children or pets.

My experience:
Over the years I have learned the hard way, that I need to nip a headache, menstrual cramps, or the like, in the bud by taking as soon as I discern I have a problem. That ensures that I can effectively and quickly eliminate the pain. I am a big baby about pain, so I try to stay on top of it. Let me explain further. I am not a baby about minor pain, but if it is more than that, I want it handled. For me, I would prefer labor pain to a severe sinus headache or a severe toothache(think abscessed tooth/root canals). As Nuprin is no longer available, Motrin is my OTC medication of choice, and I find relief within twenty minutes of ingesting with a glass of water. It is not necessary for me to take food or milk with it, as I experience no stomach difficulties whatsoever (and I normally have a very sensitive stomach). Of course everyone is different. It is then effective for about 4 hours, sometimes more. While the instructions state you should try taking just one initially, I find that I need to take two of this product or similar products. Again, this varies from person to person, so follow their guidelines.
Anything I dislike about the product:
As noted in my "cons", I cannot always find Motrin in the drugstores or online. It is my favorite, so when I can easily find it, I purchase it. If I cannot, I opt to purchase Aleve or Advil, a close second in effectiveness for me.
Final thoughts and recommendations:
I highly recommend Motrin IB tablets (gelcaps) for anyone not allergic, 12 or over, when you follow the directions appropriately, and carefully read the warnings. I am giving this product 5 stars for excellence!
