"never let a toothache go, always go to the dentist", to bad I didn't listen to him.
I am writing this opinion on Motrin IB after taking it for an abcessed tooth. I must state I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but THIS tested my limits. I have never had a toothache before, until now. Last Saturday night, my husband and I went to a wedding and reception, we had a marvelous time, dinner, drinks and dancing, what more could a woman ask for right?!
Well, to get right to the "point" of the story, we went home that night, I was feeling a little pain in my jaw (right below the tooth), I didn't think much of it, I had this nasty little tooth problem for awhile but was to chicken to get it taken care of,oh how I would pay for that.
Sunday morning about 4 am I was woken out of a dead sleep with the most HORRIBLE pain all the way down my neck, ear and jaw bone and that tooth was throbbing, I cannot begin to tell you the pain I was in (I am sure most people who have experienced this know). The whole day Sunday I suffered, taking everything under the sun EXCEPT Motrin, all failed my pain. I was desperate Monday morning and finally called my dentist and practically ran to his office and jumped into his arms(which wouldn't be that awful except my husband was there),anyways, he sat me in the chair, x-rayed the offender and had me come to the other side of the room so we could "chat".
Turns out, I have to have the nasty little tooth pulled because I let it get abcessed (ewww, I shudder at the visuals),he handed me a large packet of antibiotics with instructions with a small sample bottle of "my miracle".
The bottle was Motrin IB, his instructions were to take 3 every 4-6 hours. The first dosage worked, I have been taking it since yesterday and waiting for my time to go "under" and have this nightmare taken care of. I must say, I have relief with the Motrin. I am not saying I am ready to go to dinner and dancing, but I can at least stand without wallowing in pain.
I have found a downfall with it though and might inhibit some from taking it. The first is it only comes in 200 mg form over the counter, that means you have to take more pills to obtain the prescription strength, but NEVER do this without your doctor telling you so. The second is it causes slight stomach cramping for me, my doctor suggested I take it with milk and on a full stomach which has helped tremendously. The third and final downfall, it doesn't pull teeth on its own (grin).
Here is some tidbit information I think might be helpful before you go trotting off to the drug-store.....
