| radicalred's Full Review: Motrin Migraine Pain |
I've suffered from migraines since 1968 (yeah, I AM old!). Through the years I have taken prescription medications such as Cafergot (caffeine which, in theory, is supposed to dilate the blood vessels in the brain, thereby alleviating the pain), Fiorinal with codeine, and Darvocet. These medications would "hit and miss" the migraines, but it was better than taking nothing.
In 1995, a new medication came onto the market. It's called Imitrex, and it is truly a wonder drug. Available by prescription only, Imitrex was first released as an injectible. I no longer had to make the trip to the ER, half blinded by pain, to get relief from my headache. But, because I am not a trained professional, injecting myself came with it's own set of risks. Several times I hit blood vessels and bled under my skin (YUK). Once I actually hit my femur (thigh bone) and slightly bent the tip of the needle.....that hurt! After that, it was harder and harder for me to muster the courage to give myself that shot. Thank heavens, in 1997 Imitrex was available in tablet form.
As all good things go, this had to come to an end. I changed jobs and have no prescription plan. Imagine my shock when I went to the pharmacy with my new prescription for Imitrex, only to be informed that the price for NINE tablets was over $125!! Scrap that idea!
Along came Excedrin Migraine, and it works really well. So when the Sunday paper printed a coupon for $3 off Motrin Migraine..well, I just had to get some. What a disappointment!
How does Motrin get away with advertising their pain reliever as "Motrin Migraine"?? It is nothing more, and nothing less, than regular strength Motrin. The active ingredients are "ibuprofen, 200 mg per tablet". PERIOD. This is, beyond a doubt, a deceptive ploy to cut into the market that was opened by Excedrin Migraine. Motrin Migraine did nothing to help with my migraine pain, but it does work great when my wrists hurt (I have carpal tunnel syndrome). Maybe they should try selling this product as "Motrin Carpal Tunnel Formula"...
My advice to the people at Motrin---if you can't beat them, don't lie. Admit it, and emphasize that your product works well, too. Don't get new packaging and a new advertising line, and try to pass off your old stuff as something new. I'm not impressed. In fact, I'm disgusted.
