Another product jumping on the migraine bandwagon. For years, there were no over the counter migraine pills on the market, now all of a sudden, it seems every drug company has a “migraine” product. I’ll admit, I fell for the hype and the advertising.
See I suffer from migraines. Not often, but even one a year is too many. Years ago, I had a prescription for a migraine medicine because I was getting migraines about 4 times a year. I don’t remember the name of it (it may have been Midrin), but it really didn’t work that well anyway. I really think time is the only thing that truly takes away a migraine.
After I finished the prescription, I didn’t bother getting it refilled because like I said, it didn’t seem to work all that well. That was about 8 years ago. Fast forward to about 9 months ago. After not having had a migraine for 2 years, I got one. I debated calling the doctor to get a migraine prescription, but instead I took Aleve, laid down in a dark, silent room, pleaded with the dogs to “let mommy rest” and put a Migraine Ice patch thing on my forehead and just waited the damn thing out. (P.S. The Migraine Ice patch helped, but really no more than a cold washcloth.)
So when I was going through the Sunday coupons a month or so ago, I came across a $3 off coupon on Motrin Migraine. Wow! A product made especially for migraines. Maybe this might really help. Also that week, my local Genuardis had Motrin Migraine on sale for $2.99. Luck was on my side because when I went to the store, they actually had it in stock and the cashier took $3, instead of $2.99, off my bill so I made a whole penny! Oh luck be a lady tonight!!! Atlantic City, here I come!
I really didn’t look at the box or read the warnings because I didn’t need to use it yet. Migraine medicine is like car insurance, it’s something I need to have on hand, but really hope I never have to use it.
So when I pulled out the box to give it a look over, here’s what I found. There is absolutely nothing “special” about Motrin Migraine. It has EXACTLY the same active ingredient as Advil or Motrin IB, which is ibuprofen 200 mg! I feel lied to. I expected some super duper migraine reliever.
Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.
Then I thought about it. Ever since that first $3 coupon, I haven’t seen any more coupons for it and I don’t remember seeing any more sales for it either. I checked the regular price of it yesterday when I was at the grocery store and it was $5.99. Now I can get a bottle of Advil for less than that and I usually have a coupon to boot!
So does it work? I don’t know, I haven’t used it yet and hopefully won’t ever have to. But I don’t expect it’s going to work any better than regular old Advil or even Aleve. It's all in the advertising and I got suckered in.
