Pros: Stout zippers. Comfortable straps. Smart compartments.
Cons: Was advertised as 2500ci, I think. Really more like 2000.
The Bottom Line: A sturdy, versatile bag that can store a variety of gear conveniently.

| ictalurus's Full Review: Ebags Mountainsmith I.T.Z. In the Zone |
I purchased this daypack in September of 2002 to replace a 2000 cubic inch JanSport and a 2100ci EastPak both of which had repeatedly failing zippers. I wanted a pack that I could carry books (I'm a PhD student) and some SLR camera equipment conveniently and also to use for occasional light hiking duty. I had recently bought a nice camera bag, and I thought it would fit in the second large compartment of a 2500ci bag with room in the compartment nearest my back for books and a clipboard. Upon receiving the bag from the internet retailer, I noticed the tag said it was 2000ci. My camera bag didn't fit in it, but I decided the ITZ was nice enough to keep.
The main compartment is large enough for two 1.5" binders, a clipboard, and a 1qt water bottle, and there is still enough room in the smaller compartment to fit my SLR (with no case), the flash, a bag with film and filters, and my lunch in a gallon ziplock bag. If carefully packed, the banana I usually have in my lunch will stay unbruised. The zippers appear really stout and robust to over-packing.
The compartment for pencils and other miscellany is really well thought out and spacious. There are several smaller compartments for segregating your gear.
On the upper part of the pack is a smallish compartment that is big enough for a CD player or tape player. I keep various quick access things there such as some bandaids and other small first-aid necessities--things you need to get to in a hurry.
The straps are stout, well padded, and contoured. Both myself (6'5", 215lbs) and my wife (5'6") can carry the pack comfortably. The compression straps are long enough to hold a folded tripod (~42" fully extended) even when the bag is fully packed. The upper compression straps have clipping buckles so the compressed pack can be opened easily to search for a particular item. The material seems durable and water resistant for light showers. Two features that would have been nice would be a stowable hip strap and a secure pocket that would be between you and the largest compartment when carrying the pack.
Overall, I've been very satisfied with it and use it for a variety of tasks. It would make a good overnight or weekend bag and would probably work as a carry-on for airline travel if the bag weren't too over-stuffed.
