Pros: Can help in educating kids in following directions.
Cons: Hard to assemble, Parts are easy to lose
Mouse Trap made by Milton Bradley sells for around $10.99 at least that's what we paid for the game. I remembered the game from my childhood and had a blast playing it (at least I thought I did).
Mouse Trap has a fun concept and making all those gadgets move is fun for kids. This game is recommended for children ages 6 and up. It does aid in following directions and number concepts because each piece of the trap has a number on the directions and the piece that you need to put on next.
The object of the game is to catch everybody's mouse before yours get's caught. You roll dice and move the corresponding amount of spaces. You need to land on a space with the number of people playing the game in order to add a piece to the trap. There are also spaces which a cat catches you and you move back spaces, or a friendly dog helps you move forward spaces. A few spaces allow you to get pieces of cheese (small cardboard pictures). These pieces of cheese allow you to move other players when you get in the final circle. You replace a piece of cheese to the pile and roll the die to move another persons mouse and try to get it onto the Cheese Wheel space. The Cheese Wheel space is where the trap falls capturing the mice. In order to set the trap you need to land on the Turn Crank space. The last person to have their mouse left wins the game.
All the pieces of the trap will need to be broken off each other before the first time you play, and the cardboard cheese pieces will need to be punched out.
Now what I don't like about the game I found the directions confusing and hard to follow. Once I figured the directions out the game was very hard to assemble. I had a hard time getting the pieces to stay in place, not to say how hard it is for a 6 year old. Also, there are some small pieces for the trap which can easily be lost. Kids are not always that careful and drop things easily. Once a piece is gone the trap won't work and the game is done for ever.
I cannot recommend spending $11 on this game which may only last a couple of games played unless you are with your kids and very careful no pieces drop and get lost.
Oh to try and remember how we played when I was a kid.
