I love exploiting NYC for all its ethnic cuisine, and Moustache is one of those rather rare places that will give you authentic food without sacrificing atmosphere.
Just walking into this restaurant, I was already impressed. There are copper topped tables, soft Arabic music and mood lighting created by low-hanging cloth over lamps in the ceiling. This makes for a very relaxed environment for you to chat with friends over a leisurely meal. Unfortunately, the staff can sometimes be equally relaxed, and you may have to be somewhat aggressive in ordering or getting your check.
The menu is a little small, with half of the menu different types of pitzah and the other half various sandwiches and salads. Nevertheless, just about everyone can find something to their liking, whether they want to explore foreign cooking, or just want to stick to a simple pitzah.
My favorite is the lamb sandwich with mint mayonnaise. You really can't notice the mint other than the green color of the sauce, and just have a really good juicy sandwich to munch on. Some entrees may be pretty spicy, so ask beforehand if you don't like the heat. The yogurt is a good choice for dessert, as it comes with nuts, fruit and honey mixed in. The best thing, however, is the homemade pita here, which is served when you arrive and used in the sandwiches. It reminds me a little of rye bread, and is hot from the oven!
