This Review will compare the Mr. Coffee, SR. Series Coffeemaker to the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker
Three years ago I bought the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker. It was cheap, $12.50, and it worked.
Well, it worked for about a year. Then it began to leak water on the counter top.
At first I thought my husband was filling the decanter too full. So I made the coffee the next morning - eek! It leaked water for me.
I took it apart to see if I could find the problem. And then couldn't get it back together again. ;-(
Hmmmm I guess I am better at taking things apart than putting them back together again. Duh!
So it was off to Wal-Mart to replace it. I didn't know what I was going to get. There are so many good coffeemakers out there.
I really liked my Mr. Coffee so when I spied the Mr. Coffee, SR. Series Coffeemaker on sale for $15.95 ( original price $19.95) I bought it.
The Mr. Coffee AD Series has the following features:
* Lighted On/Off Switch
* Brewing Pause 'n Serve
* Removable Filter Basket
* Water Level Indicator
* Stain Resistant Warming Plate
* Easy-Pour Decanter
As compared to the Features of the SR. Series:
* Two Hour Automatic Shutoff
* On/Off Indicator Light
* 24 Hour Digital Clock Timer
* 12 cup capacity
* Automatic Pause 'N Serve drip stop valve
As you can see, the SR. Series coffeemaker has several more features than the AD12 Series coffeemaker.
As far as the quality of the coffee, both coffeemakers make very good coffee. Both are easy to clean. Our SR. Series coffeemaker has lasted much longer and I really like the extra features it has.
We have used our Mr. Coffee SR. Series coffeemaker for almost 2 years now without any problems. It makes really good coffee and is very easy to clean. I especially like the 2 hour automatic shutoff feature.
Directions For Use
To make sure your first cup of coffee is the best it can be, wash the decanter, lid and brew funnel mild detergent and warm water. (You need to do this with any new coffeemaker)
Set the Clock: (not on the AD12 Series)
You must set the clock on the SR. Series model before it will work. To Set The Clock - Move the control switch to off. Alternately press and hold the hour and minute buttons until you reach the current time. A red dot will appear in the upper left display corner for pm time.
To Pre-Set the Brewing Time - Simply press and hold the brew set button while setting the brew time with the hour and minute buttons. Remember to pay attention to the pm indicator light.
Fill the decanter with tap water just to the bottom of the silver band. Slide the control switch to on and when the water quits flowing, empty the decanter.
Your Mr. Coffee SR. Series coffeemaker is ready for you to make your first pot of coffee.
How To Brew Coffee: (for those of you who have never made coffee in a coffeemaker)
1. Place paper filter in brew funnel
2. Place coffee into the paper filter
(For best results use level tablespoons (tbls.) of drip grind or grind recommended for automatic drip coffeemakers)
12 cups = 11 tbls.
10 cups = 9 tbls.
8 cups = 7 tbls.
6 cups = 6 tbls.
4 cups = 5 tbls.
2 cups = 3 tbls.
3. Fill the decanter with cold tap water
4. Pour the water into the intake screen and put the decanter on the warmer plate
5. Slide the control switch to on
6. Discard the used grounds and filter and rinse the brew funnel and slide it back into place.
7. Turn the control switch off when the decanter is empty
The Automatic Shut Off (not found on the AD12 Series coffeemaker:
Once your coffemaker is turned on, the coffee in the decanter will stay hot for 2 hours and then will shut itself off.
You can keep your coffee hot for another 2 hours by moving the control switch to off and then back to on.
Automatic Pause 'n Serve (found on both AD12 and SR. series coffeemakers:
This feature allows you One Minute to sneak a cup while the coffee is still brewing.
Warning - If the decanter is removed for more than one minute the brewing funnel will overflow.
Cleaning (for both AD12 and SR. Series coffeemakers)
You need to clean your coffeemaker every 80 brew cycles if your water is soft. Every 40 brew cycles if your water is hard.
You can use Mr. Coffee Cleaner (read directions on box) or vinegar.
Using Vinegar - Pour 1 quart of undiluted white household vinegar into your coffeemaker. Put a paper filter into the brew funnel and place the decanter on the warming plate. Turn the coffeemaker on and watch the cup marking as the vinegar flows into the decanter. When 3 cups have flowed through, turn the coffeemaker off and let stand for 1/2 hour.
After 1/2 hour, pour the 3 cups of vinegar back into the coffeemaker. Place the empty decanter on the warming plate and turn on the coffeemaker and let all of the vinegar flow through. Turn off the coffeemaker and decard the vinegar and the paper filter.
To flush out the vinegar, fill the decanter with cold tap water and pour into the coffeemaker and allow the water to cycle through. You need to do this until you can not smell any vinegar in the decanter (usually a couple of time will do it).

In Conclusion:
I would recommend the Mr. Coffee, SR Series Coffeemaker over the Mr. Coffee 12-cup switch coffeemaker AD Series even though the SR Series is a little more expensive.
The AD Series makes just as good coffee as the SR Series, but I have found that the SR Series will hold up longer.
I hope this review has helped you to make an informed decision.
Thanks for reading!
