Pros: Best looking coffee maker under $50; heats up faster than older models.
Cons: Leaking can occur easily without proper maintenance.
My wife bought our Mr. Coffee (FTX25) in June 2005. It looked great and the coffee was pretty good -- flash forward about seven months. The coffee maker was leaking every time we used it, and it was getting worse with every use.
About three weeks ago she accidently forgot to put the pot on the burner to catch the coffee. Of course it overflowed everywhere, but we were already use to cleaning up coffee anyway.
I then cleaned the filter mechanism with spring, along with the top inside portion, paying close attention to where the coffee exits the machine. I really didn't think it was going to make a difference, just trying to clean up the mess she made.
Funny, but we didn't notice that it had stopped leaking. It's been three weeks now, and it hasn't leaked since. We were just days away from getting another machine (not a Mr. Coffee that's for sure).
Yeah, there might be a design flaw that allows it to leak fairly easily, but if it starts leaking -- try cleaning it, you just might be surprised.
