momtonine's Full Review: Dorothy Gilman - Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled
I am a true fan of the indomitable Mrs. Emily Pollifax and greet each each new installment in this continuing mystery series by Dorothy Gilman with anticipation and joy. As she has in the past Ms. Gilman has once again provided me with numerous hours of intrigue and suspense. She never disappoints.
In this latest installment, Emily Pollifax, senior citizen and volunteer CIA agent is once again sent to take care of a delicate situation in a country which is not United States friendly. This time her destination is Syria, her companion is her old friend John Sebastian Farrell, and her mission is to find and rescue a young American girl who disappeared after saving an airplane full of hostages at the Damascus airport.
As usual there are numerous twists and turns to the plot before the conclusion and enough doubt and confusion is thrown in to keep the reader guessing until the very end. Nothing is ever as it seems in the world of Emily Pollifax.
Dorothy Gilman not only entertains she also educates. Her research into the customs and mores of the countries in which she sets her stories is exhaustive enough to make you feel as if you are there with Mrs. Pollifax. I am forever learning new things about areas of the globe which differ greatly from our own, and this authenticity of background truly enhances the entire experience of the mystery.
So grab a cup of tea, light a fire in the fireplace, put your feet up, and grab Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled and be prepared to be entertained, educated, and intrigued once again.
