theatregal's Full Review: Murad Acne Complex Starter Kit
Please note:
I am writing this review as a way to inform you of my horrible experience with this product-- not to be judged, or critiqued by "epinions.com" constituents for grammatical or structural errors. So, if you like what I have to say, and you are able to tolerate and pardon this English MA's lack of perfect grammar, then read on...
Here is my review:
Consumers beware! This was one of the ugliest products that I have ever used for acne. I can't begin to tell you what it put me through physically and emotionally. I bought this product for maintenance purposes in order to combat monthly breakouts and also for the sake of trying something new ( big mistake). Murad Acne Complex blistered me and gave me headaches. Now I am trying to clear up a horrible breakout. The ingredients in Murad are way too harsh for my oily/sensitive skin --citrus oils, salicylic acid, triclosan and sulfur . I broke out in a scaly painful rash on my chin and hands. When I called customer care regarding this apparent allergic reaction, they were extremely rude.
I would recommend Proactiv over this kit. At least with proactiv you see more immediate results, and it doesn't force too much of an initial breakout. And yes, for all you Murad admirers, he does warn you of a " purging process", however, how is your body suppose to fight all of that when there are secondary rashes ? It was horrible.
This kit does not live up to its promises, and it has only made me realize that careful research, before entering into a purchase for acne care, is essential! Wish I could say better things about Murad, anyone with acne problems is always looking for new treatments.
Since I wrote this review, I have started the Clear Skin Treatment Regimen at Acne.org. So far, I have seen results. I'm not going to go through the steps of this--you can look that up yourself. All I can say, is that it is cheaper, and I noticed an immediate difference.
I should add that I am still clearing up the whole murad mess on my face at the moment. Not only did I break out with a horrible rash on my chin, I also developed a rash on my forehead. Murad claims that you are to do a 48 hour patch test. I did not do this because I have never had any allergic reactions to any ingredients (individual wise) in the product. In my opinion, it was the combo of all the essential oils with the other acne fighting ingredients which proved harmful.
After suffering with acne for nearly ten years, I would recommend the aid of a dermo. As much as I was frustrated by the several I encountered, they know what they are talking about. Fortunately, my acne problem can be controlled with over- the- counter medications, however, for a while, I suffered quite greatly from painful breakouts and harsh words from others.
Don't ever let this problem get the best of you. A Dermo is the best way to determine a good course of treatment for severe acne. However, if you suffer from mild to moderate acne, and you don't want to break the ole' pocketbook, I would recommend gentle cleansing , a mild dose of some benzoyl peroxide and a good oil- free moisturizer( along with patience).
Sometimes less is more--and Murad is just too harsh for words. Nevertheless, what doesn't work for me, might work well for you. This was just a painful experience, and a costly lesson that I learned in treating mild/moderate acne. Don't let a mild problem become worse! Learn from people like me!
