Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
I don't really know why I'm reviewing this movie, since most people won't watch it anymore, but here goes.
Charles Bronson plays Murphy, a cop who's wife (who looks half his age) has left him, and nips at the bottle every so often. This is supposed to be a main characteristic of his, I can tell throughout the movie, since everyone is pestering him about his drinking, especially when he takes out ' the flask '. But honestly, that was the only way I could tell he was supposed to be an alcoholic, because even though some of the other characters kept saying how bad he looked, and how his suit looked like he'd just gotten out of bed, I just didn't see it. I guess I'm used to seeing the really typical 'seedy' alcoholic portrayed in other movies. His suit really looked okay to me!
There seems to be a crazy killer on the loose, this not-so-attractive old lady (the one who played the wore-out looking mom in 'Pale Rider', who still looks worn out and still talks as if either she can't control the modulation on her voice or she just can't act like a hill of beans), who is going around killing various people. Of course there's a motive behind the killings that you find out near the end, but this isn't all there is to the story.
To add a slight (yet predictable) twist, the typical troublesome cop has a typical enemy, a mob-like character, that he likes to hassle every now and then. As things 'heat up' (if you wanna call it that), Murphy believes that this character is solely responsible for all the killings going on, until, like I said, later in the movie he finds out someone else is behind them.
At the beginning of the movie, a dingy girl tries to steal Murphy's car. Even though he stopped her, she kicked him in the groin area and got away. Later on, due to circumstances beyond Murphy's control, they become handcuffed to each other and doh, even with a gun can't seem to get the cuffs off or at least separate from each other, how convenient yet stupid!
I didn't mean to give away much of the movie, but these are just examples of how despicable I found this movie to be, and it's overall plot!
Everything just screamed TYPICAL in this movie, from the young but goofy girl Murphy gets stuck with, to the 'old friend the good guy goes to when being hunted by the law who just happens to be an old and wise black man' who just happens to not be a cop anymore because he was shot with a .22 used by a 16 year old! (He's handicapped yet on crutches, can't get around easy, is not bitter, blah blah blah)
Now I'm not sure what the word ' campy ' means when it comes to movies, and maybe this isn't it. But it's something! At least the word ' typical ' comes to mind, over and over!
