Murray's Sugar-Free Chocolate Sandwich Cookies - A delicious sugar-free treat!

Written: Sep 02 '09 (Updated Sep 09 '09)
Pros:Crisp chocolate cookies, and delicious creamy centers - Yum!
Cons:I wish they'd use fewer chemicals!
The Bottom Line: Even people who don't eat sugar deserve an occasional tasty treat. They cookies provide a delicious option.

Whether you can't eat sugar for health reasons, or you simply choose not to, you should still be able to enjoy a decent cookie once in a while.  Thanks to the good folks at Murray's, there are now plenty of choices for sugar-free snacks.  Some are better than others.  Their chocolate sandwich cookies are one of their best.

These cookies are just like Oreo's - round chocolate cookies with creamy, white centers.  And just like Oreo's, these cookies can easily be pulled apart, for those of us who like to eat the cookies in separate layers.

These cookies are absolutely delicious.  The outsides are crispy, and taste of a dark chocolate flavor.  The inside cream is sweet, soft, and absolutely addicting!  And there's plenty of it - not like some other sugar-free cookies I've tried, that are stingy on the cream!

Sadly, sugar-free doesn't always mean "dietetic".  In this case, 3 cookies make up a serving, which will give you 130 calories and 7g of fat.  Thankfully, sodium is not an issue for these cookies, with a mere 55mg per serving.

What makes them so sweet?  Well, a whole bunch of chemicals.  These cookies contain Splenda-brand sucralose, sorbitol, lactitol, and acesulfame potassium.  Such a cocktail of artificial sweeteners can certainly wreak havoc on a digestive system, so eat these cookies in small quantities until you're sure your system can handle them.

While these cookies contain a few more chemicals than I'd prefer, they do taste good.  As an occasional treat, for people who avoid sugar, they are one of the tastier options out there.  They're also inexpensive - at under $3 for the 6.5 oz. package.  Note that once opened, the bag can not be resealed.  I wish there were a zip-closure, but since there isn't, I transfer the contents to an airtight container, in order to keep them fresh.

If you don't eat sugar, but crave a delicious Oreo-like cookie, Murray's provides a terrific option.
