| althaea's Full Review: Music Crafts for Kids: The How-To Book of Music Di... |
Oh Boy! Oh Boy! I get to be the first to review this incredibly wonderful book. This book is a great introduction to music as well as a great source for crafty ideas.
The book starts out with an introduction by G Clef. There is a "guide" for each chapter. These "guides" are the eight notes; do, re, me, fa, so, la, ti, and do. Each chapter introduces a new note along with many fun activities. It also gives a brief description of the kind of music that will be experienced in the following pages.
In the first chapter we experience sounds of the earth by creating things like wind flappers, and cave winds. The second chapter teaches us about the first noise makers. Thus we have the Birth of the Beat. We get to make beats of our own by making buzz disks, mouth drums, and gourd rattles. The third chapter is called Pluck, Bow, Bang, & Blow. Sounds like fun! We learn about the first musical instruments. Drums, rattles and whistles are among them.
The fourth chapter switches gear. Here we start to learn about the Eight Little Notes. We get to see the notes on a staff. We learn about the different lengths of the notes and the cleffs. We compose a song. We make a stand and a musical mobile among other things.
In the following chapters we learn about jug bands and story tellers. We learn Celebration Melodies and Happy Songs. Finally we Dance, Dance, Dance and then we put on a show. All of these chapters include activities to go along with them.
This book is a simple, fun way to enjoy music. No one has to be an expert to make it work. Adults, as well as children, will really enjoy this book. There are so many activities, there will never be nothing to do. Have fun!
